Good to see this.

From the NY Times

"At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Bob Bowman was standing nearby as Ryan Lochte regaled reporters with his balanced diet: McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bowman, the coach of Lochte’s longtime rival, Michael Phelps, recalled on Wednesday thinking then that if Lochte ever gave up his fast-food diet, “we could be in trouble.”

Prescient words, those. These are salad days for the 26-year-old Lochte. In the past year he has trimmed his diet of fried foods and sugary sodas and, after years playing Robin to Phelps’s Batman, positioned himself to become USA Swimming’s next superhero."

Lee!

It is just amazing to me that these children weaned on garbage ever age far enough that they can actually become athletes. Before the Vancouver Games, the CBC news satire show, "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" decried McDonalds' sponsorship of Olympic athletes with a mock advert sketch. In it, a young Olympian is standing in a studio, kitted out in his uniform. There's a Big Mac and fries and a cola on a stand next to him. The director's voice is heard telling him to pick up the Big Mac and take a bite. The athlete stares quizzically off camera, and then snaps, "I'm an elite athlete--I can't eat that!" before striding off. Very funny.

I was never an elite, professional, but was VERY athletic and raised on garbage food and garbage ethics... I did begin to eat and think in a more healthy manner as an adult. But now, I am dying of ALS.

There is such a thing as TOO LATE.

Sometimes I am astounded that so-called educated people still think there is no connection between diet and physical well-being.

I saw that NYT article and thought, "FINALLY! It is entering the mainstream."

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Similarly, "People who add more green leafy vegetables to their diet may significantly reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a new study says."

Ya think?! Not news to most here, but a message most other people need to hear.

i honestly think this is a testament to human fortitude and spirit
imagine what phelps could achieve if he went all raw

watch out universe
he could probably outswim a dolphin
or a shark even

who knows?

when i see people eat junk and perform so splendidly
it reaffirms in me that the spirit and will must be TERRIBLY strong

i'm an elite something or other ( maybe just a snob in general grinning smiley

so big mac is not good enough for me
i prefer to chow down on parsley juice

breakfast of la championes

glug glug

ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

hey lee

i'm still rooting for you
u elitist connoisseur of life, you!

So glad you are here! Sending vital positive vibes your way. Remember what Deepak Chopra says, "Every cell in your body is eavesdropping on your thoughts."

I must say I've had the same exact thought. How can some people eat garbage all day and be star athletes, have ripped bodies and seemingly endless endurance? It's got to be a positive mind/spirit then.
