carrot juice instead of fruit
Posted by: paulieGB ()

Hi,

Can carrot juice be a replacement for fruit ?
Maybe it is healthier also.

Im not talking about living of just carrot juice,
Eating fruit early on in the day and drinking carrot juice later.

Paul

Hey Paul,

The lack of fibre would the worry so id say no. It would be a pure fructose/sugar hit to the liver which has shown to cause fatty liver in studies.

So id say your better off eating fruit/vegetables and some juices rather than replacing.

The carrot juice - it seems to me - would be a big sugar hit to the liver only if consumed alone. If consumed at the same meal as protein + high fiber whole food, I should think that these bad effects would be negated.

Ahh yeah good point Horsea i forgot to say if you ate a fibre source at the same time it would be ok.

There is also a few juicers one of them i believe is the old steel vitamix that retains the fibre when juicing.

Carrot juice is good for the liver but those benefits might not outweigh the pure hit of sugar which has been shown to promote fatty liver.

Its more the lack of fibre that is the issue. Carrot juice is good for fatty liver and other liver conditions, but what most of these sites dont take into account is that newer research has shown pure fructose hits can cause fatty liver.

I wouldn't drink any carrot juice. It has a lot of mucus.

Once I froze some fresh-squeezed carrot juice and traveled with it. When it thawed, and I poured it into a glass to drink, a huge glop of mucus poured out. I thought my brothers had spit into it as a joke. But bottle after bottle proved to do the same. And I watched those bottles to make sure nobody had spit in them.

My fruit juice that I thaw never has mucus. So I quit the carrot juice.

I have a Breville juicer and it retains some of the fiber when I juice veggies. Dr. Gerson was a big proponent of carrot juice, more then a few times a day too.

I could not replace chewing up my fruits though for just juices..unless it was a juicing fast which I couldn't sustain for too long, but others may. There's that website called juicefeasting.com and they have tons of info.

Oh and Peggy..how does any juice get 'mucus' from itself? It might congeal due to the leftover fiber and cold? Aloe vera juice is gloppy due to its properties.

Love,
Prism

According to Arnold Ehret, Prism, all foods except fruit and leafy greens contain varying levels of mucus.

There are many more causes than those listed there for fatty liver, steroids for example, certain prescription medicines, cushings syndrome, eating too much fat of course.

Vegetables do not contain mucus.

I sometimes enjoy carrot and apple juice. I never notice any sugar 'hit'. I wouldn't replace fruit with carrot juice but adding it to your daily intake of fresh fruit and veggies sounds fine to me.

Thanks everyone for your input,

Why do some of you say you would not replace fruit with carrot juice ?

I also read an article here =
[www.hacres.com]

And they have tested carrot juice and it turns out most of the sugar is glucose with little fructose.
I happend to agree with this because i do get satisfied when i drink a lot of carrot juice but Don't when i eat a lot of fruit.
Im sure its the fructose in the fruit, i can also get satisfied if i eat cooked potatoes.

Is carrot juice healthier than fruit ?

Paul

I forgot to say the pure glucose happens to have the same risk as pure fructose for being a cause of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

We cant really say ones healthier than another, they contain different nutrients, phytochemicals and such. As always its best to get a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables so you get a wide range of different nutrients.

I know to eat a variety,

But why not eat fruit in the morning and carrot juice later ?

You can get calories from fruit / fat / carrot juice smiling smiley

no reason at all - it's a perfectly fine thing to do.

I think the reason not to replace fruit is so that you keep plenty of variety and have the fibre too.

No reason at all, im actually quite fond of juicing as a tool to increase nutrients but i use juicers that retain the fibre or add a fibre source to slow the absorption of sugar.

fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis have been linked to insulin resistance also.

I prefer green juices though, but again yeah no reason not to include themsmiling smiley.

I just bought a juiceman and made some carrot juice and celery juice for the first time. It was not bad at all. I added an apple to enhance the tastebest education|what the best

If you want to keep the fiber, but enjoy the juicy-ness of juice, you could put your carrots or apples into an electric grinder, which is what I do. It is a slow-moving auger-type juicer/grinder (a 6-in-1 type)* which doesn't change the nutrients thru the high-speed brutalization of foods as done in the Vita Mix.

What is the point of eating raw if we are going to kill our nutrients in any high-speed device?

Why does it have to be a replacement? Why can't it be in addition too?

I just recalled that various health practitioners tell you to mix your carrot juice with some bitter greens (a lot isn't necessary, just a bit) to make it a healthy drink that doesn't zap your liver and good blood sugar challenges. For example, fresh dandelion greens would be good, or even the green carrot tops. For me, pure carrot jce is just too sweet anyway.
