I cant say i have, but it wouldnt surprise me since many fruits and vegetables contain nutrietns and phytochemicals which support and protect vision.

I have with juicing. It's the carrot juice! Happens every time! My farsighted and nearsighted is awful. I have a bad astigmatism. There was a small paragraph about it in one of Dr. Walker's juicing books which is where I had gotten the idea from. My eyesight got bad again after going off raw and even though I'm raw for the most part now, I'm lacking in the carrot juice so I haven't noticed an improvement. I wear contacts but even though I can see a bit clearer, it's not good enough to matter. I can't see my laptop screen without them. But even with contacts and driving, when drinking a lot of carrot juice I can read signs on the highway much further away which is great since I'm always driving to new areas I am not familiar with.

Hi Jill,

I have noticed that I don't need to use any vision correction if I read in bright light. Outside light, like sunlight is sufficient for me. If I am in dim light the text does appear blurry.

I am going to incorporate more carrot juice into my daily diet. I already drink about a quart of green smoothie (or more) daily.

My mom & dad both needed glasses by their 30's and ate the SAD. I am 43 and really only need glasses for reading small text in dim light, so I feel I am ahead of the game.

Most of my family is using glasses at this point, except for my immediate (vegan/raw) family.

Is carrot juice the answer to correcting this problem, it is mostly sugar if you take out the fiber where most of the nutrients are. why not the whole carrot in a smoothie or salad. Most juicer cannot juice carrot properly unless you have a norwalk

I am far from high-raw even, but you be the judge: I have worn glasses since 6th grade. I am almost 45 and on my last visit the doc said that I needed a WEAKER prescription for the first time ever! I was said to be doubly legally blind! In other words, very near-sighted (cannot see far away). I believe that it is due to a big daily salad of raw vinegar, good olive oil and Braggs or raw saltsmiling smiley

I didn't say it was the answer. Just what worked for me. What is with the skepticism ? You sound like a Norwalk juicer salesman.

Maybe juice because I was drinking a quart at a time and the average person can't eat 2lbs of carrots in one sitting. Maybe you should do a Google Search for health benefits of carrot juice because many sources call it the king of juices for a reason.

I have a GreenStar.

Years ago when juicing was brought into the mainstream by Norman Walker carrot juice was proclaimed the king of juices but more recently it was found that carrot juice is mostly sugar, using carrot in smoothies will bring you all the benefits carrot has to offer, I have not juiced carrots in years. Carrots aint all that great as they've been proven to have more assimilable beta-carotene content when cooked.

But raw produce is full of phytonutrients and other nutrients which are great for protecting/supporting vision aswell as enhancing it such as lutein and zeaxanthin.

Whatever. I like carrot juice. I don't like most smoothies due to the pulpy or thick texture nor do I like adding so much water to water it down. A simple 8-16oz drink would turn into a 32-64oz drink. Personally, I am not worried about carrot sugar.

Anyway - the original question was "Has anyone had any improvement in their vision since eating raw? " Seems other than me and bananawho, nobody else has posted personal experience with it and would just rather hijack the thread into a carrot debate.

I have nothing against juicing myself other than that it doesnt contain the fiber, so i add a little fiber source to my juices. Pure fructose to the liver has been shown to be an indicating factor in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Like i say ive not had any improvement, not that i really have any vision problems. Other than floaters, lots of annoying damn floaters.

I have seen a lot improvement in my vision since going raw but it was not from drinking carrot juice. I used to wear glasses to correct nearsightedness but with the improvement I no longer need them. I used to drink mainly carrot juice when I started but I was not seeing any improvement, it was only after getting more into green juices, smoothies, exercises, and making improvement in my overall health, especially improvement in digestive system that I saw the changes.

Most juicers on the market will include a bit of fiber along with the juice. The only truly "clean" juice, i.e. w/o pulp will be the Norwalk.

The single auger models, the Omega Vert especially lets a good deal of pulp come through with the juice.

Ditto on the floaters...I've had them for a good while as well, although I usually don't notice them much unless I am looking at a bright painted wall with no other distractions...

Unless I concentrate on them, they don't really bother me...

I used to wear glasses before I went raw. I don't need them now. Not that they were very strong or anything, but I certainly feel there was an improvement.

I also practiced sungazing for a while too, so maybe that had something to do with it (but that's a whole other thread lol)

Tip on eye-health: after looking at close-up work for a while (ie computer screen) take a break and look out of the window at something far away (eg a chimney or something) for about 2 minutes. This allows your eye muscles to relax. Also it's good to exercise the eye muscles by slowly looking up/down/diagonals/round in a circle - do it slowly, carefully, looking at the periphery of your vision.

That is similar exercises that the Bates method uses. I looked into that year or so ago but haven't really followed through with it...maybe I should.

wow, I just googled the Bates method and I came across this awesome article:

I was especially interested in this bit - eating in front of the computer - it's a habit I have to break :-/

" Avoid Close Work During and After Meals
Dr. Sasaki, a Japanese Eyesight Specialist states that you can add twenty years to your life if you do not read while eating, and go outdoors after meals for at least 30 to 60 minutes. Why does reading and close-work during and after meals impair the eyesight? Close work draws blood to the eyes, instead of being used for digestion, thus causing lack of nutrients to the eyes, weak eye muscles and cloudy vision. Going outside after meals provides the necessary oxygen to properly digest and assimilate food. Spending one hour outdoors after meals vastly enhances digestive powers, which improves and strengthens eyesight. Humans require large amounts of outdoor oxygen, especially for the kidneys, liver and eyes. This imparts vigorous health and superior eyesight. Breathing in outdoor oxygen and performing deep breathing exercises in the fresh outdoor air helps in the production of healthy red blood cells; it improves cellular oxygen; and it gives us inspiration, good health and long life. Take advantage of the outdoors, especially in sunny weather. "

On the Bates method -

There are some youtube vids on doing it/some of the different exercises. I have pinhole glasses too, but here again i just can't discipline myself to use them regularly...

My vision almost went back to 20/20 such that I passed the driver's vision test without glasses/contacts. Too bad I didn't stick it out to 100% raw vegan as my vision got a little worse after incorporating some vegan cooked back to the diet and I use my glasses again for distance. However, my vision is overall better than before raw even though I use glasses for distance about half of the time, especially when weather is bad, if I driving in an unfamiliar area, or if it is very dark.
