I was wondering how you manage to get enough zinc on a LFRV diet, considering it mostly seems to be in fatty foods such as pumpkin seeds? thanks x Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

Date: January 12, 2011 09:20PM for me, i don't think it's a matter for one food is for x, y, or z, since most of what i eat has varied nutrients/vitamins/minerals, and altogether, since i eat enough calories, i get enough zinc. but i wouldn't say one item brings the total up quickly. There arent many good sources of zinc raw sadly, pumpkin seeds being one of the good ones, other nuts and seeds also have good levels of zinc. Depending how good the soil is in which fruits are grown then they will have some zinc also. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/12/2011 09:34PM by powerlifer. Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

I cannot eat nuts and seeds in any quantity at all - infact I often go days/ weeks without them. umm pondering if I can get all my nutrients when 100% raw Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

Date: January 12, 2011 10:50PM Supplements such as zinc which are synthetic id usually recommend as a last course of action.
In your case that you cant eat nuts and seeds which are the best raw sources of zinc, id give and take and eat some vegan cooked sources such as legumes etc. Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

hi Utopian - I wasn't planning on giving up pumpkin seeds - or going 8/1/1 in fact - I was just curious cos it looked like it would be really challenging to get zinc without resorting to eating a lot of seeds each day. Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

Date: January 15, 2011 12:55PM One of the many great things about a high-fruit diet is that Vitamin C increases absorption of any zinc ingested.
You may find this article of mine (on zinc) of interest: [www.debbietookrawforlife.blogspot.com] Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

Date: January 15, 2011 05:10PM Debbie, ive never read of vitamin C increasing zinc absorption, are you sure your not thinking of iron? which vitamin C does increase absorption.
All ive ever read on vitamin C and zinc was that sythethic vitamin C blocks zinc updtake. Now i now its not sythethic were talking about here but im sure your thinking of iron here. Ive seen some sites that suggest that vitamin C may increase zinc absorption but nothing concrete. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/15/2011 05:14PM by powerlifer. Re: zinc sources on 8/1/1?

Cool! It hasn't been a problem for me personally, but I eat enough foods. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
