What a shock. I'm sorry to hear that. He's someone I expected to live well into his 100's! I remember seeing him on TV when I was a little girl. He has long been my husband's role model for fitness. He leaves a wonderful legacy.

But just think what a phenomenal positive impact on health in this country this man had! His message is more important now than ever!

Thank you, Mr. Juiceman, for all your efforts.

You guys, seriously? It's AMAZING that he lived into his 90's! And died quickly instead of from a lingering illness. Just goes to show how awesome you can feel right up to the end. What an inspiration, I'm happy to have known about his life.

This is one of those people who,if he didnt get so into health and fitness, might have expired in his 40's from a heart attack.
I truly believe it was the juicing and exercise that let him live till 96!!

Hey Tam...

Jay Kordich is "The Juiceman..." or at least he used to be...Now he calls himself "The Juice Daddy..."

Although Jack was selling that "power juicer"...

but I'm not one to correct...lol grinning smiley

Yeah....I was very saddened. I, like a lot of people thought he would live well into his 100's. I had heard him on a couple of radio interviews within the last 6 mo. or so, & he was as upbeat as always.

One wonders if he would have made it past the century mark if his diet would have been a bit cleaner. I know he ate egg whites, fish, even took some wine occasionally. But no processed foods, per se...

I always loved his quotes;

"If man made it, don't eat it"

"If it tastes good, spit it out"

His feats of strength/endurance were absolutely amazing, no doubt.

Just one of many from wiki -

1984 (age 70): Handcuffed, shackled and fighting strong winds and currents, towed 70 rowboats, one with several guests, from the Queen’s Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary, 1 mile

R.I.P. Jack, you will be missed.

jk,

Whoops, no, you're right, Jay Kordich is "The Juiceman"[tm]. Referring to LaLanne as Mr. Fitness sounded like I'd be violating some patented name as well smiling smiley

Well, I just wanted to say that I am grateful for LaLanne's promotion of clean food and fitness!

96 is close enough to 100 for me to be impressed! Then again, there's plenty of SAD people who live that long. Genes and the environment play funny roles. Either way, Jack was an amazing man, mentally and physically. I just got his juicer for Christmas, the Express model. I'm bummed though, it doesn't juice greens whatsoever! When I tried and failed, I thought to myself how Jack would probably be not too happy to know that what is advertised as a juicer capable of juicing greens for health can't do it at all.

I think he was the inspiration for my partners father. He too was into exercise and ate mostly whole foods, vegetables. My partners father wasn't vegan, but he did watch the fat and sugar. He lived to be 83, heart and lungs incredible, but cancer got him.

He ate a lot of eggs, 3 or more boiled egg whites daily. That's a LOT of eggs!
Still, nice interview, he was such a positive person. I loved listening to his voice.

Love you Jack!

Coco,
"He ate a lot of eggs, 3 or more boiled egg whites daily. That's a LOT of eggs!"

Did the interview say what he did with the yolks? I know he was trying to be healthy from a convential point of view, but I always found that kind of irritating and wasteful when people don't maximize the use of food. Hopefully a pet got a little treat everyday.

How about a talking duck? No waste there. That's what was normally lowered

In the public television broadcast Forever Young last year at the age of 95 Jack spoke of 80 years in the profession. As a skinny 15 year old he heard a lecture that got him into fitness and diet, building a gym in his backyard and drawing the local firefighters and police to come and work out. Imagine that, at that tender age. Here, 30-ish in what looks like Jack's Muscle Beach days --

Jack's wife Elaine LaLanne was also on. She's also fantastic.

But is muscle building really important to a long healthy living? You need to work hard every day to maintain that type of body which is not normal and natural

In YOUR opinion it's not normal or natural but none of us can claim to be an expert on that topic so everything is just a guess anyhow. He looks fantastic, he lived to a ripe old age in terrific health and died a peaceful and quick death. Sounds pretty good to me.

Building muscle isnt really important to longevity, but its fun, makes some feel good and can often keep those who would be partaking in other activities that arent healthy occupied.

Back to making those feel good, feeling good is an outlook, your outlook and perception is a massive part of health. Feel ill, sick and you will be, feel happy ,positive and healthy and you will reap rewards.
