This may be my first fresh date ever...

Date: February 05, 2011 09:52PM So today Trader Joe's had these fancy Medjool dates for $4.49/lb. They were refrigerated and on the package it says 'refrigerate after opening.' Why is this? (By the way, after consuming one of these, I have a slight burning sensation in my mouth. What the hell is this about? Is it normal? I have never had that happen with dried dates! Could it be some chemical?) Re: This may be my first fresh date ever...

Date: February 05, 2011 10:08PM I just want to add that I never cared to buy fresh dates because from what I saw, they looked pretty much like dried ones. Having now devoured a bunch of them, I guess they are moister...I heard someone rave about his fresh date being so "juicy" and gooey. Meh. It's softer but about the same. In the past, I've had the sugar crystallize on them. Young children who have never eaten Sugar have burning mouths when they do.....WY Re: This may be my first fresh date ever...

Date: February 06, 2011 04:07AM I have never had this burning sensation when eating medjool dates! This is not a good sign, surely. I would eat these sparingly if at all...
Ugh, figs. They taste like dusty dirty yuck to me. I don't like those fresh or dried. I know people rave about them but I would rather eat durian and that tastes like rotten old fermented gym socks IMHO. Re: This may be my first fresh date ever...

Date: February 06, 2011 04:54PM There is absolutely no way in the world that a fresh date can be confused with a dried date. They have a very short shelf life because they have so much moisture in them - they will only keep a few days - they are soooooo gooey and sweet - like nothing else.
In my experience sugar only collects on the outside of semi dry ones never the really truly fresh ones. Re: This may be my first fresh date ever...

Date: February 06, 2011 09:26PM Prana, no they are not organic. Whole Foods has og dates for $7.99 and these are $3 cheaper. I ate several more and did not experience the same sensation. I had to laugh, Wheatgreass Yogi! I am way too familiar with sugar in all its forms Re: This may be my first fresh date ever...

Once I had a coconut on top of the fridge for so long it sprouted. Nowhere to keep a tropical tree though, I put it into the compost (it was winter). Re: This may be my first fresh date ever...

I've only had the dried Medjools, and they were too sweet (and addictive) for me.....WY Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
