Date: February 06, 2011 01:04AM Anyone have any other sources that nutsonline.com for raw/unpasteurized nuts/seeds? I wanted to make a purchase, but I see Almonds are $13.99/lb. right now, & that's not even including the shipping! OUCH!
Any other stores that you know of? Guess I'm off to google. Re: Any more sources for raw/unpasteurized nuts/seeds?

I bought a pound of those Truly Raw Almonds, and want to sprout them for easier digestion. I have some soaking right now. If anyone has done it, is 12 hours enough soak time?.....WY Re: Any more sources for raw/unpasteurized nuts/seeds?

Date: February 07, 2011 05:09AM yes, that should be more than adequate for a nut of that size. 8 hours would probably be enough WY. Just make sure to bathe them twice daily, morning and night. If they start to look like they are drying out just move them around in the bowl, the top ones can look dry but the bottom ones won't be and you don't want to drown them with too much water.
Please let us know if you actually get a sprout or not. One tip, if you gently squeeze them when they are sprouted to your liking (just starting to show a tail is enough) they should slip right out of their skins. I remove the skins if I'm going to make almond milk or pate with them or even just to eat them. The skins are high in tannins. The only time I would leave them on is if I were going to dehydrate them to make them crunchy again. You can marinate them in herbs and a bit of lemon to make them flavourful if you want (some people use salt or braggs but I don't think you eat any salt, do you? I find it interferes with food's subtle natural sweetness myself). You could remove the skins for this too but at the amount you would eat by the handful (probably only a few at a time) it wouldn't matter if you left them on. Edited 2 time(s). Almonds germinate in colder temps better; almond trees like a mild frost, so make sure where you are doing this isn't hot or really warm. Re: Any more sources for raw/unpasteurized nuts/seeds?

I read somewhere, and sorry I cant remember where, is that they can sell unpasturized almonds directly to the general public, but cannot be sold raw if for resale in the stores; at least here in California. Date: February 07, 2011 04:17PM I contacted natural zing to see how long their sale on nuts is and they said that's pretty much their price so good to know! I wonder if my mom will freak out if I order 25 lbs to her house? Probably... wish I knew someone around here who wanted to split an order with me. No raw foodists in Windsor that I know of though. Date: February 09, 2011 01:07AM I have been doing some searching - found D & S ranches in California - raw & *unpasteurized...well, they use some newfangled process of pasteurization that doesn't harm the nut.
[www.california-almonds.com] Prices are attractive - 9.95 - 1 lb. almonds. Walnuts same price. (yum!) Looks like they run deals all the time offering free ship if you buy larger amounts. I wonder about the pasteurization process...anyone know anything about the company? Read about the process here - [www.california-almonds.com] Re: Any more sources for raw/unpasteurized nuts/seeds?

I recall going to that page last year sometime and being intrigued(didn't need any nuts then, though). I think the only way to verify this process is to buy some nuts and try to sprout them. Good luck! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
