I love those! I don't bother to peel them though, you can just cut them and break out the segments, they come apart easy. Aren't they so divine though? Somehow dry but also juicy and NUM! Wish they grew around here, I'd plant a tree!

I love pomelo. Very mellow taste, not acidic like a grapefruit.

Did you know that there are two varieties? One has grey flesh like a normal grapefruit, but the sweeetest is the pink fleshed...yummm. However, I find that the skin of each segment is slightly bitter, but it's easy to peel off anyway. My favorite fruit is by far the mango, and I'm real happy I live where they grow.

The one I recently had was somewhat bitter...almost like a grapefruit, but not quite as tart as that. I was a bit disappointed after I opened it to discover what little actual meat it contained.

At $2.60 a pop, I decided to pass on them in the future, for the most part.

I'm so glad you mentioned this. They've been in my grocery store but I figured they were just a big grapefruit.

Im not a fan of Pomelo, not enough sugar to live hard with. They are sort of tasty though.

I've found they all have a yellow/greenish outer, but the flesh is either like a grapefruit or it's pinkish.

Hey JuicerKatz, I have sampled a pomelo that wasn't so sweet, but it sounds like you've eaten the full segments. I always peel off the segment skin cause it's always bit bitter. Also, I've never seen one that didn't have much flesh,so you didn't have a good first experience with them, and an expensive one too.

Has anyone sampled what is commonly known as a 'Sour Sob'?

I cut it in half & ate the flesh, or "meat". The flesh part was a little smaller than a baseball. We bought two, & I juiced the second one along with the pithy part.

Mixed in with Orange & other produce, I didn't really taste it. I still felt $2.50 was pretty steep for all there is to it. I would rather spend that amount on young coconuts. smiling smiley

With the pomelo, everything apart from the actual flesh is bitter. Thats why I go to the trouble of peeling the skin off each segment. I think thats why you didn't like it much.

And yes, it was pretty exy, and green coconuts are fantastic. My friend ate one for the first time the other day, and thought that it was a different variety of coconut, hahahah. She loved it so much she's been hunting around all the fruit shops in search of them.

Cool coco. The 'Sour Sop' is a bit like a custard apple, but much bigger and a different taste but always sweet. They only grow in the tropics, and are not that popular. You have to wait until they go all black and soft. But they're tasty, and not as many seeds as a custard apple. They're much easier to get the seeds and flesh out, and they'll store in the fridge for ages

Today I saw a pomelo in the grocery store for the first time. Has it always been there and I just never noticed it before? I probably only saw it because of this strand. The person at the check out counter asked me what it was. We discussed it for a bit and I promised to tell her what it was like.

I LOVE grapefruit. Pomelo is very similar. I found it easy to peel. Yum.

I've had them more than once. It just tasted like expensive grapefruit to me. The rind was very thick so there wasn't very much actual flesh.

Great - I just wasted $2 on a what I consider a dry tasteless grapefruit.

I like them, but the last one I had was half rind, and sections were kind of tough. The actual fruit I thought was nice. I have been craving pink grapefruit, some were on sale here, and its been the actual only decent fruit we have had in a very long time. Its in a very conventional grocery store, so conditions must be favorable somewhere to grow them.

hmmm, the ones I had where so much different from what most people seem to be describing, mine had a thick rind, although not nearly as thick as everyone is saying theirs are, and mine was completely yellow, no green in it, and tasted like some sort of cross between a really yummy orange and a grapefruit... so im kind of confused by a lot of the descriptions on here... maybe good pomelo's are really difficult to come by?
