I love these sorts of lists. Surprises for me? Oregon and NYC. Oh and Quebec.

I'm in California (northern) and sometimes I feel like I'd do better in Florida or Hawaii. Their sweet fruits are more appealing. I eat similar to Fred too (high fruit and low fat).

I disagree with california. I grew up in the farming area in central cali and it was hard to find ANYTHING organic there. Anything... it was a very poor area and stores simply didn't carry high quality produce because no one would buy it and it would rot on the shelves. I also had a hard time finding specialty items in any of the stores there, even stuff like Coconut Oil or gluten free pasta. It wasn't until I moved to NOrth Carolina that I began having access to decent raw foods and or specialty foods. It is probably different in the bigger areas of California like LA and San Francisco but if you live out in the farmlands, forget it. We didn't even have a Whole Foods store within 50 miles in any direction.

I went back for a visit last winter and I saw that a few of the stores were starting to carry SOME organic items, but not much. I was able to get organic apples and a few other items, so at least it appears to be slowly changing.

Happy to see Costa Rica on the list. I'm going to central america next winter. Can't wait!

I'm in Oregon =). There's only one health food store here - Lifesource in Salem the capital of Oregon. I know of two whole foods stores in Portland but yeah that's 45+ minutes drive. Some other stores here in Salem carry organic stuff though like Fred Myers. Should start paying attention to the bulletin boards for co-ops in the area.

When I lived in California, it was so much easier to get organic produce than here in Florida's Gulf Coast. It cost at least 4 times as much. It's frustrating and I have had to use co-ops, farmers markets, sales, etc. I am sure that there are better places in the US than California, but Florida definitely is a lot suckier smiling smiley

Hi. I think tropical places where you can get tree ripened fruit is the best to eat raw, NYC is not paradise to me.

I would think all richer countries have good food supplies. We have superstore, and it has all the raw nuts and seeds I need. T&T has very fresh fruits and veggies. I may in the future move back to asia, and have no idea if I will be able to get raw nuts and seeds!

Could you please elaborate on that? Like where in FL specifically and what was the biggest problem? It's so hard to understand why a subtropical place like FL would suck for produce! I live in Chicagoland and it's pretty decent considering we are in the middle of the freaking country!
