Vitamin C can be toxic at high doses. I read somewhere that at too high doses it turns into oxalic acid. Also prolonged overusage of vitamin C can cause your arteries to thicken; however its NOWHERE near smoking. You might want to look up a book on vitamin supplements in your local library.
I don't know about vitamin E.

Hope this helps!

Do a google search on

"tolerable upper intakes"

or

"tolerable upper levels"

with or without the s at the end.

It's probably best to avoid exceeding such levels.

This is from Viktoras Kulvinskas:

[geocities.com]

Further work was done by Nobel Prize winner Arthur Robinson at the Linus Pauling Research Institute. ...

...Even more interesting, Robinson showed that megadoses of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), as recommended by Linus Pauling, led to lesion formation in organs, especially in the kidneys, where these isolated nutrients crystallized out under super-saturated states. (This finding caused Linus Pauling to become very distraught and angered, and it even led to a $10 million lawsuit.)
The danger of isolated nutrients is phenomenal. We need nature's balance, foods that have optimal nutrition. We want nutrition in the highest concentrated form possible, while also being in it’s whole state so that we have optimal usage of our nutritional intake."
