Date: July 31, 2011 04:25PM They're raw, but they're not fresh, and fresh dates are a whole 'nother world of goodness. Even though we're at the exact opposite of date season (it starts in September), you can still get some fresh ones left over from last year's harvest. www.dateland.com Re: How raw are dates?

Date: August 01, 2011 03:31AM I agree regarding fresh dates. I never understood the raves about dates until I finally tried them fresh. They're so completely amazing. It's rare that stores have them truly raw, organic or fresh. Simple Raw Recipes & Health Tips Re: How raw are dates?

Date: August 01, 2011 04:58AM I bought some fresh dates from the market (like really fresh - red colour) and was pretty excited. However a couple of days later when they were ripe I noticed small worms in many of them and could not eat them. I wonder what commercial companies do to prevent this happening - are they sprayed with anything? Re: How raw are dates?

Date: August 13, 2011 05:36PM Fresh date season is just beginning, actually, and will be in full swing next month. I really recommend Pato's Dream Date Gardens, especially their halawi dates. And all their dates are organic, and the company is also unionized with UFW, if you care about that kind of thing (the karma of workers being treated decently comes out in our food, if you ask me).
