Venus Williams (tennis player) goes raw to fight disease

Hello folks. It's been years since I've visited this site. But I saw this article and I immediately thought about you all.

She researched holistic remedies and settled on a vegan raw diet. Pretty cool!

too bad it has to take sickness or injury for people to make choices positive.

life vs lifelessness

Thanks TigerDak. I hope Venus is well again soon. I think it's very cool that Serena is showing solidarity by going raw vegan too!

That's how a lot of people overcome the bad habits they've learned though. I think it's a great way to smarten up, personally. I was very healthy before but obviously doing something wrong when IBS showed up. Raw helped me get well again, I've always been so thankful for that.

I think it's amazing when a meat lover takes a drastic step to improve their health. That can't be easy and it shows a lot of commitment. I hope it's very successful for the both of them.

Her sister isn't ill and is doing the same diet along with Venus. I thought it was cool when I read about it yesterday and almost placed a link here to the article.

This will get a lot of press and perhaps many newbies will end up here along with other raw food sites for more info.

Love,

A lot of the people in my family have this weird tennis fetish. Nothing wrong with being into a sport but it's like they're obsessed with hitting little yellow balls at each other over a net. Anyway, as expected, there are also some major dietary nay-sayers. Here's to hoping that Venus gets cured and starts dominating on her new diet a la Novak Djokovic. Even if she does, no one will admit that I'm not a crack-pot after all.

That's not the point. Just think how many young girls (and boys) follow the Williams sisters. Many will become permanent Vegans.
I never cared much for the Sisters, until now.......WY

Both Venus and Serena are considered old in the tennis world. Venus is ranked 101? or maybe not even nationally ranked anymore, so the media will keep an eye out for Serena (ranked #12).

Serena already has a bad reputation for having major behavior issues lack of sportsmanship on the courts since arguing with the umpires in a barbaric way. I lost respect for her a long time ago and don't judge her differently by changing her diet. I see her dropping in the rankings within 2012-2013.

I hope the media doesn't judge her downfall in the tennis world based on changes in her diet, rather her terrible attitude and natural decreasing abilities to play as she ages.

Why don't we pull for her to succeed, rather than fail. I'm pulling for Tiger Woods. I get excited when he enters a Tournament. Think of all the Negative Emotions he has received?
Our feelings matter. That's the way the Universe works......WY
P.S. Venus is 31, and Serena 30. I wouldn't write them off yet.

I was alittle negative.

My point is that succeeding and making millions isn't mandatory to prove to the world that a raw diet works.

Tennis works differently than most sports in terms of when a player peaks, especially golf. In general, when a player reaches 30 they are fighting an inevitable decline because they are at the world level competing with highly trained 20-28 year old tennis players. Select few elite players careers lasted to the ripe age of 33-34. I could go on, but care not to hi-jack the post. smiling smiley

I wish her well on her journey to better health, but do not support her actions on the tennis court.

Sometimes it feels like people on this board are being contrary just for the sake of it. Maybe I don't understand? How is what I said not the point? Color me confused.

I don't understand the negativity especially towards people that have excelled. Why people have the compulsion to find fault with others have always perplexed me.

I was seeing beyond myself. I was relating something that I thought others might relate to (difficult family members being difficult because we don't eat what they eat). It's one of those "you're not alone" type things. My intentions were nothing but good.

Maybe you should ask someone if they are or are not seeing beyond themselves before you decide for them.

I thought that was a very nice apology WY. HeavenHands, I love you for your righteous passion. It's time to extend those sweet heavenhands and make peace!

Personally I don't care about Venus's or Serena's tennis game. I just hope Venus gets to feeling better. Even famous people deserve support for all their good intentions. As we all know, a raw food diet can be very difficult to sustain at first. Who knows, Venus and Serena may be cruising the raw food sites as we speak and come across this thread.

Go Venus! Go Serena!

P.S. Serena has always had a weight problem. I remember, years ago, seeing her lose a match because she was overweight and out-of-shape. If she stays Vegan, the weight should melt off.

Good stuff, i hope she finds relief with a raw vegan diet.

Although i hope she realizes that raw food is no cure all panacea as many like to make out. There are specific herbs and other supplements which would likely be beneficial to her.

It just goes to show that atheletes are not necessarily all that healthy. I would rather eat in a clean manner with lots of raw plants, exercise moderately (not jog to the ends of the Earth, build muscle instead of gently tone, etc.) than do a lot of jock stuff and eat crap.

The average professional (American) football player lives to the age of something like 53 or 54. The brutality of the sport has something to do with that. I also feel that while athletes they do so much of the physical that they end up burning a vital energy supply (jing?) that sees most people into old age.

One look at most female tennis players will tell you that as a whole they're not particularly impressive physical specimens. On the other hand, the men are at the top of the pyramid.

Yeah. I like men who are slim but not skinny. I am SO not into the lunkhead bodybuilder type (no offense to lunkhead bodybuilders...smiling smiley)

A runner's body. Like the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. Yummy!

Me too. I like women but the lean/muscular but not bulky male physique has a better aesthetic to me. Someone like Federer or Djokovic. Geez. JFK, Jr. The only man that ever made me jealous. Thanks for the reminder! smiling smiley

???? I am curious because it would appear that only a man could be jealous of JFK Jr. If I am correct, it's interesting how we assume gender based on various factors. For me it was your handle. HeavenHands sounded like a woman's name for some reason...

Interesting. Despite having nature's phallic symbol in your handle, I never thought of you as anything but human. I guess you're a "dude." Just kidding. Heaven hands is culled from the world of tai-chi. And yes, I possess male anatomical features.

It's probably a safe guess that your assumptions also have a lot to do with my behavior. I'm not nearly as emotionally closed off as most men, especially heterosexual men. Some might even describe me as an emotional exhibitionist. It's the mad, crazy artist in me. I refuse to be swept off into that dark little corner of male silence. Too boring and not particularly healthy.

LOL- it's just too funny, though...I still get accused of being a man. The way I express myself is apparently not demure enough for lady bits...It amuses me because it reflects how I feel about myself. I don't identify with gender at all.

Getting back to the matter at hand, I am not impressed with many atheletes, in terms of how they look and how I perceive their health.
