I get alot of PM's about bitter herbs and what they are, so finally decided to do an article on them and their benefits, how to choose and use them. Hopefully this helps.

Turmeric doesn't really have any bitter properties although it is a bile stimulant and a mild digestive aid.

Artichoke leaf is a good bitter and is cheap in most places.

Thanks Coco smiling smiley.

Yeah luvyuu, dry leaf powdered. Chamomile is a bitter albeit weak one, i prefer the stronger bitters.

I like grapefruit. Thank you.

That's weird, I think of chamomile as sweet.

Great blog post, powerlifer. I've been taking coptis on the back of my tongue before meals for a few weeks now, and am amazed at how much better my digestion is working!

I have a Liver-gallbladder tincture by a well known 'herb doctor'.
The ingredients include:

- Milk Thistle Seed
- Dandelion Root
- Oregon Grape Root
- Gentian Root
- Wormwood Leaf
- Mojave Chaparral Herb
- Black Walnut Hull
- Hawaiian Yellow Ginger Root
- Garlic Bulb
- Fennel Seed
- Artichoke Leaf

Its very bitter and I'm going to see how it works.
60 drops in only 2 oz of water 2-4 times a day.

Tincture should work fine newhoove only problematic ingredient is in the ginger in that it is a potent ant-acid, but for the amount you would use for the bitter taste the side effects would be minimal.

Thanks Tamukha smiling smiley, glad you are finding bitter herbs helpful.

Why do we need so many "ingredients" to get us healthy and going, should not simpler be better, a simple return to natural eating, rest, and fasting.
It is the complexity of the diet that got us sick in the first place but we are looking for more complexity to solve the original problem. Now we need things under the tongue.

No one said we need it, but there is many who can benefit from the benefits bitters have to offer such as those with low stomach acid, bile stagnation etc. You can eat all the simplistic diet you wish but if you are suffering from the above your not going to be absorbing anywhere near what you should or could.

As we age our stomach acid levels lower naturally, bitters offer a natural safe way to aid our digestive process. You don't even need so many ingredients, any bitter food or herb will work.

You can pick up a cheap coffee grinder/spice mill to grind herbs etc to powder. I paid $10 for mine and have had it for a few years now. Sometimes I see them in the thrift store too.
