If you had to chose one for a snack, which one would be better, figs or dates?

Thanks

Dates imo are way to sweet so I would go with the figs, but dates have there place also and maybe add a few to the mix.

I don't think you should view these wonderful foods in such a way. Everything has its own nutritional profile: almonds have more calcium than certain other nuts while there may be more iron in others. I think variety is very important for this very fact. If you were to ask about the sugar content of dates, then yeah--I suppose figs (especially fresh) are better in that regard. But some people eat large quantities of dates--after all, they also have lots of fiber--but why focus on one fruit to the exclusion of another?

i agree smiling smiley a variety of fruit and veg is best, as they all give a variety of different nutrients/vitimins/goodness smiling smiley

I think listen to your body... what fruit/veg do you feel like eating that day... and that's probably exactly what your body needs smiling smiley

i love dates and figs smiling smiley

Thanks.

I think I'll stick to figs. I get them from Costco and they are organic

Organic. Made by Nature
Black Mission Figs
Sun-dried and Unsulfered
www.madebynature.com

these figs taste great and clean

The dates I get are high quality but not organic (also from Costco)

Sun Date
California Medjool Dates
www.SunDateUSA.com

The dates are softer and I think they raise my sugar levels too much to the point of being unhealthy. They are almost like sugar glazed coated.

I think you guys read way to far into that, maybe cause my comment was not the best. I am not viewing dates as anything bad and I did not say anything negative about them. They are just Sooooooooo sweet! I love them.

"Some People" do alot of things, that does'nt mean it's the best thing for them does it? I was just giving my opinion. If people want to endulge in large quantities of dates every day I don't really care, as long as it is organic! that would make me feel a bit better lol.

I was not focusing on one fruit to the exclusion of another?

I would pick a different snack. two high sugar fruits... in reality, nuts and seeds with some dried veggies and a few dried fruits are a much healthier snack than the one proffered.

for us sugar addicts figs are a perfect shot. I need something to stop sugar craving. I will need it whole my life. Once an addict, forever an addict. I need really, really sweet stuff all the time, and sweet fruit makes me feel great.

I don't crave sweet very often but when I do a medjool date does the trick. Stuffed with a cashew or pecan it's just heavenly.

In the book 'raw Food Controversies,' the author warns about these type of combinations (and gourmet raw food). He said that raw fooders compensate cravings by endulging every night on these combos, which in the long term makes them sick (too much fat and gas). So as long as you don't do it every day, you are OK.

I am half way through the book. It narrates his own personal experience/views with raw food, which may be different for other people (different mind/body).

I've had a container of dates in the fridge for 2 years, I think I eat one every 3 or 4 months or so smiling smiley.
