my secret Raw Sin Confesion
Posted by: Panchito ()

I have to come out of the closet.

I am not a 100.000% raw foodist. I drink two cups of coffee in the morning.

Amen

I need to come out of the closet too.

I love and occasional steamed veggie supper.
Or cup of warm broth.

We just need to do the best we can.

I ate curried quinoa yesterday. Last weekend I had a glass of wine. I consume herbs that have been prepared with black beans. I burn sage and deliberately direct some of the smoke into my lungs. If I'm really feeling dangerous, I'll sautee some veggies in a wok.

I'm a wild man. smiling smiley

LOL, we are not even vegan. Close but... not quite.
I don't feel that's much of a confession though, I don't aspire to be 100% raw vegan again in my life. For a day or two here and there, sure, but not all the time.

Public confessions. Good for the soul, I suppose.

I am not brave enough for a full confession here, but suffice to say it's more than a coffee and steamed veggie here and there.

Even though I no longer strive to be 100% raw food, I do my best.

Don't be afraid. There's a poster named rawalice who openly advocates smoking cigarettes. She's still around, I think. Hey did you ban rawalice!?!

Hey, let's not confess each others sins here, it's enough if we stick to our own.

There is nothing wrong with not reaching some of the goals we set or deviating sometimes from our ideal.
The problem I see in rawfood is that some of the gurus make claim, write books about a certain life style they are not really living themselvees. And them we are surprised to see that they die young, some with serious diseases. It is not the diet, the plan, the raw food but rather it is that they were not following what they preached.

The raw food life style will be more interesting if we are more truthful with ourselves

It's a special time when you are in the place and the mindset to be completely 100% raw.

And it depends how you want to split hairs. I was 100% for an unbroken year and a half (not a single bean, not a single bit of potato, well, those are the only cooked foods I eat!), but you don't really know about those dates or sundried tomatoes, do you? I mean, I didn't cook them, but I'll bet my bottom dollar they weren't raw.

Consciousness is what's most important. As long as YOU CHOOSE CONSCIOUSLY to ingest something that isn't raw, and it's still an organic, whole food grown from the earth... I think that's okay.

Having something like a frozen pizza, however, is a different story entirely.

There would be no residual damage from a small amount of steamed veggies. Processed foods are absolutely wrecking. I would NEVER touch something with gluten, MSG, etc.

I haven't ever been less than 90%, even on my OMGBADRAWBAD days. ^.~ I think it's easier for me to be honest with myself that way and maintain an equilibrium of 90%+ raw, then be insanely puritanical, only to break down and crave something deleterious.

So, I don't feel sinful. :O

Rawlion, please post in one of the "what do you feed your kids" threads, there is a serious lack on info on kid friendly raw food. My kids get so bored and there isn't a lot that of 100 raw that makes for a friendly school lunch. Love to hear your solutions. *curious*

I have to engage in this conversation. I also am not 100%, and usually go 100% when I feel bad enough not sticking too it. I don't always listen to my body. Most importantly I try to stay 'whole foods'.

i had a negative thought the other day
but didn't consume too much of it
in fact, i stopped at two spoonfuls
which is better than two gallons
and better than two pints
but then i decided to stop my negative thought binge
and binged on some positive thoughts later on
and washed that down with some gratitutde
and then had a raspberry smile for dessert
and that's as sinful as it comes
add a mint on top of that too

I'm here to confess, but not to a sin.

I eat meat once a month.

My husband is extremely supportive of my raw veganism - he juices for me, and he's learning how to chop veggies (he's become quite ninja with an ulu). But my husband very strongly feels that there are certain nutrients that can only be had through ingesting heme.

Rather than argue, and to maintain a good relationship - we buy organic or wild meat (usually elk) once a month; we treat the meat with a bare minimum of heat, and enjoy it with much thankfulness.

I feel no shame in admitting this.

I agree you should feel no shame with your choices no matter what they are, you have to feel good about your life. Shame and stress are more unhealthy than anything else.
That said, the discussion here generally avoids non-vegan topics winking smiley.

Oh, and what the heck is an ulu?

An ulu is a curve-shaped knife used by northern indigenous peoples.

It's not the label you carry but the effect on your overall health that matters.

I don't know how you guys can "cheat" and stay onboard. That is excellent. If I ever let someone talk me into joining for a cooked (healthy, low fat, vegan) meal-- I am done for...needing a fast in order to reboot to raw! It is a slippery slope. I guess that is indicative of being an addict (of cooked food).

I also have one non-raw and non-vegan sin.... Boiled and mashed potatoes mixed with few steamed prawns, and tiny bit of olive oil. Weird combination, but I love it and it's the only thing I miss since becoming raw and so I decided it'll be my secret.
