geo,

I don't particularly like meal replacements, but the Ultimate Meal looks good to me smiling smiley

I talked with a woman that lives in my apt. building. She is out daily a few times to feed the feral cats, she walks to the store albeit slowly, she even traverses a brick wall to get in a back space in the garden that one of the cats is caring for her kittens. This lady recently had a hip replacement.

I asked her about the results and she said it was wonderful, and she has no pain. She was in the hospital for 4 days for the op. She is 80 years young. She is very pleased with the results, and before the op she said there was a lot of pain. They found she had 2 fractures in her hip.

She is not a raw foods person, she eats normally, wasn't overweight, but has been active and she is a strong willed lady with a zest for life and a passion for cats.

While many of us may have come to raw foods later in life than some others, aren't zealots for exercise and have different health issues, I think Geo you are ahead of the game compared to many others due to your healthy lifestyle.

Love,
Prism

If you do opt for the surgery, don't forget to check your b12 levels before and after and consider a herbal program to support your adrenal glands. Anesthetics can really suppress your adrenal health. Good luck with every thing man, I will look forward to a PM.

Very good point, infact even the whole stress alone from the thought of surgery can place a tremendous strain on the body/adrenal glands.

Thx for all that, wow, I've certainly got some work ahead of me. But I'm sure I'll benefit heaps, as I never thought about the adrenals etc. I know that I'm way ahead of most hip op patients, but nevertheless, the more the better I reckon.

Thx too Prism, I've known of many elderly people who, while not vegan, raw or even vegetarian, but they have eaten simply, without much in the way of processed food. These people I met up in the mountains, or in the outback, and they have grown up before McDonalds became popular smiling smiley

Yes Tam, I thought they looked ok too, so I might buy some, particularly for my stay in hospital, which I hope won't be very long.

Yes, they had/are having a lot of problems with the metal on metal and metal on polyethylene joints.

I've done considerable research on hip replacements, as you would imagine and I insisted on ceramic on ceramic. Ceramic has less wear and is more 'wetable', which means that surrounding tissue moisture will act as a lubricant. Also, ceramic wear particles are small enough not to activate the immune system, which was part of the trouble with polyethylene.
