And browsing though rawfoodexplained.com theres a part that mentions that honey is antibiotic, but, they condem it, since it means "life killing"...

so what the hell are you supposed to do when you get a serious cut? Remember reading an article on a guy who stopped using medicine and instead applied honey to his wounds and he got healed n stuff...

Dates! They are a great sweetener. I read (maybe on this board?) that "date sugar" which is sold in the stores is just dehydrated ground up dates. Dates have a lot of sugar. Carob as far as I know is fine.

Love,
Uma

As far as I know, carob is fine -- I don't remember having adverse reactions to it, Taking cacao reminded me (the high and the crash) a bit of cocaine. My body really didn't appreciate it!

Use Stevia. It's a natural plant from the rainforest, safe for diabetics and 30x sweeter than sugar. You can buy it at any health food store.

I've used the brand "Stevia Plus!" for several years.

or one could just shake and shiver while going through sugar withdrawals
that's what i do (sometimes) just for kicks

or i just eat a pear

that usually solves it

i used to eat dates
but no more

they made me feel freaky
cacao... well... i had a bit before
and .... hmmm... it was nice at first

but then it made me feel like a bird with purple brains
and silver veins

i could only handle so much of that
now i have only
grey and white matter for my brains
i guess i'll just have to deal with that

I use both agave and raw honey, they are great foods.

Cecelia from rawglow.com mentioned using whole stevia leaves that she grows in her own garden, as being much better than using the extract or powder. I want to check that out! Thanks for the reminder.

The Barhi date, which is my favorite date, has a glycemic index of 45 to 50. Below 55 is considered low glycemic. I got this from the Live Update, a newsletter from the Date People.

Date people dates are yum!

I don't always like the taste of stevia, so I've learned that if you use some stevia and then put in just a little bit of agave to bring the sweetness just to its peak, it kind of covers up the stevia flavor without too much agave.

I'm using less and less agave all the time. (And sorry to say I do some raw honey now and then as well.)
