Half Avocado ??
Posted by: SkyFeather ~ ()

I see and hear all around from other raw vegans that they eat half avocado per day. I wonder why is that, since -as I know- the avocado fats are "good fats".

How do you save the other half to keep it from getting all brown and icky? I've been using a whole avocado every couple of days, but it's a lot of fat all at once.

Here is an old post of mine that might explain this…

<<<Your body only uses two ounces of fat a day. Any more than that and it just stays in your body as fat.>>>

Hi Arlyn,

I know that Dr. Flora has mentioned this on many occasions and I have a lot of respect for her knowledge and experience, but I believe that this statement is very misleading. Even though the average thin person has enough fat to last for several months, we still need a small % (1% for Omega 3 and 2% for Omega 6) of Essential Fatty Acids in our diet every day.

So yes, our daily NEED for fat in our diet is very low, but this does not mean that we do not USE a lot of fat. In fact, the average 125 pound women with 20% body fat USES almost 90 grams of fat a day...that's over 800 calories, which is the same amount of fat that's in ~19 ounces of avocados. In other words, the average 125 pound women with 20% body fat burns or USES about the same amount of calories of fat that is in ~19 ounces of avocados every day.

So why do some people gain weight when they eat too many avocados? The reason is not because of the calories, but because avocados have a tendency to plug some people up. When I first starting eating raw and ate too many avocados, I would always gain weight, but it was not fat...it was the avocado itself...it plugged me up.

As a Weight Loss Specialist, I know that food in vs food out is far more important than calories in vs calories out. As long as our focus is on fat and/or calories, we will continue to struggle when it comes to weight loss. If instead, our focus is on cleansing our bodies and getting rid of all the filth that we have accumulated over the years, weight loss will come easy and naturally.

Just for the record, this is what Dr. Flora posted on this subject:

This "not more than 2 ounces of fat a day or your body will store it as fat" declaration was given to me by Dr. Lerman, Chief of Medical Nutrition at Boston U. Medical Center when he was explaining to me how much fat people can handle in IV solution each day before the liver starts to store it.

[www.rawfoodsupport.com]

Women can get fat eating avocadoes. If it's true that more than 2 ounces of fat per day causes your liver to start storing it as fat instead of using it as energy, than that should answer your question.

[www.rawfoodsupport.com]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fat that is processed through our digestive system is not the same as fat that is processed through an IV solution. It seems to me that Dr. Flora extrapolated this declaration from Dr. Lerman to explain why people gain weight if they eat too many avocados or too much fat. Once again, excess avocados don't make you fat, they make you constipated.
Peace and Love..........John
People say leaving the stone inside helps greatly, in addition I sprinkle the avocado with lemon juice, and then put it in an airtight container.
But it's rare when I have to do this to be honest, the avocados we get in UK are tiny, about 100-150g a fruit, so normally it's not a problem to use the whole of it in the meal. In some other parts of the world avocados are huge though, my friend visited Venezuella once and it took her some time to realise that the strange melons they sold at the local food market were actually not melons but avocados!smiling smiley
Now it makes sense to me why I eat a whole avocado since Nov. 2011 (almost 6 days per week) and all this time I have lost weight and I have become again thin with no obvious spot of fat on my body (which feels wonderful!) smiling smiley
The avocados we have here in the Netherlands are also tiny. Some are even to 1/3 the size from the avocados I see at YT videos from people from the states!
What does this mean, even?
Look, either your body responds positively to a food or negatively, and the response can change over time. Eat as much avocado as makes you feel good as opposed to sluggish or less-than-optimal.
Oh, leaving the pit in doesn't really retard brwoing; the only way to keep avocado flesh from browning is to smear it with citric acid--like lemon or lime juice--or, in the case of mashed avocado, cover the surface tightly with plastic wrap. Air is the enemy, in this case sad smiley
Well first of all, in order to answer your question, it helps to show what I said in full context so I added what’s in the [] above. And then, the best way to answer your question is with 2 of my older posts…
You would become world famous. smiling smiley>>>
I originally wrote,
“I have been able to gain weight on a caloric deficit of 2000 calories, and I have been able to lose weight on a caloric surplus of 2000 calories. In both cases, the weight was not fat, muscle or water weight - it was uneliminated waste matter - the residue from unnatural food.”
And here is my response to Jeff N…
This normally does not happen to me, but it has before, and it can happen to you or anyone else. Let me be more explicit. Since I've been 100% raw for 5 years now, if I were to go out tomorrow and eat 600 calories of dead food and that was all I ate, I would probably gain 2-3 pounds. It wouldn't be fat, muscle or water. How do I know? Because I would then do a Juice Fast the next day, and even if I juiced 2000 calories more than I burned, I'd see the residue from this cooked food come out of me and I would lose the 2-3 pounds that I gained.
I have fasted over 600 days on 113 different occasions, and many of them were because I could not maintain a 100% raw diet when I first went raw about 10 years ago.
I have done research in this area that no one, that I know of, has ever done before. The research I'm talking about is using my own body as a guinea pig. You would not believe how far I've gone to make some sense out of all of this.
About 6 years ago, I wanted to make sense out of all of the books that I had been reading, and I wanted to test whether an 80% raw diet was as good as a 100% raw diet. So I decided to eat 80% raw for the next 30 days to see what would happen. This was a step back for me - I had been 99% raw for the previous year. In the first 20 days, I gained 17 pounds. From days 21 to 30, I didn’t gain 1 pound. My suspicions were right. I filled up my colon back to where it was before I emptied it out from my Juice Fasting.
I remember after doing this experiment, reading about Paul Bragg and how he said that he was always hungry and didn’t have adequate energy during the first 2 years at 100% raw so he went back to 1 cooked meal a day, and he too coincidentally gained 17 pounds. I also read after my experiment, that the same thing happened to George Malkmus after he went 100% raw for 1 year to cure his colon cancer and he too went back to 1 cooked meal a day and he too very coincidentally gained 17 pounds. It is extremely coincidental that all three of us gained 17 pounds, but when you consider that we were all almost the same age when it happened to us, it’s not that surprising.
The only difference between me and these two gentlemen is that I immediately went back on a Juice Fast and guess what happened - I (P O O P E D) those 17 pounds out of me.
Now I understand what Jesus meant in the “The Essene Gospel Of Peace, Book One” when he said, “For no man can serve two masters. For either he serves Beelzebub and his devils or else he serves our Earthly Mother and her angels. Either he serves death or he serves life. I tell you truly, happy are those that do the laws of life and wander not upon the paths of death. For in them the forces of life wax strong and they escape the plagues of death.” Jesus made over 16 references in “The Essene Gospel Of Peace, Book One” about this uneliminated waste matter in our colon and referred to it as Beelzebub. Jesus said, “And fast till Beelzebub and all of his evils depart from you, and all the angels of our Earthly Mother come and serve you. For I tell you truly, except you fast, you shall never be freed from the power of Satan and from all diseases that come from Satan. If you look Beelzebub up in the dictionary, it says it’s the chief devil - Satan. If you go to a King James version of the bible and look Beelzebub up in its dictionary, it says that it’s the Lord of the Dung Hill. This is a piece of the puzzle that I can get real excited about!!!
When asked how to keep this demon away after we destroyed it through fasting, Jesus said, “But I do say to you: Kill neither men, nor beasts, nor yet the food that goes into your mouth. For if you eat living food, the same will quicken you, but if you kill your food, the dead food will kill you also. For only life comes only from life, and from death comes always death.”
I was on day 63 of my 90 day Juice Fast when I read the “The Essene Gospel Of Peace, Book One” and if I hadn’t seen Beelzebub with my own two eyes, I might of had a hard time believing what I read. All I know is that when I got all of this filth out of me, it changed my life forever. I finally felt connected to everything around me for the first time. Dr. Norman Walker talks about cosmic energy vibrations and how every cell and organ, etc. vibrates at a certain frequency, and as long as we are toxic, we will not vibrate at the right frequency. Dr. Gabriel Cousens also alludes to this in “Spiritual Nutrition And The Rainbow Diet”, “It is a total mind-body-spirit ecstasy vibrating in every atom of our being with every atom in the universe.”
So once again everyone, if you have not fasted until you stopped seeing Beelzebub come out of you, you don’t know what you’re missing - you’re in for a treat.
RE: Questions for John!
John Rose
Wow calv, inquisitive minds want to know.
1<<<I was wondering from reading all your posts... How do you KNOW that you are all clean? How do you KNOW that you are finished cleaning and don't need more or something deeper?>>>
Jesus in "The Essene Gospel Of Peace", said "Renew your baptizing with water on every day of your fast, till the day when you see that the water which flows out of you is as pure as the river's foam.". I did this for three days straight and since I only had 5.8% body fat before I started this 90 day juice fast, I felt pretty certain that my colon was finally emptied. I still believe that I need to do a water fast to cleanse on a more deeper level.
2<<<Also, about your clients testimonials.. and there success. I know this is shallow and not what I'm most interested in... but you mentioned that they have had success with getting rid of strech marks? Is this really true?>>>
Yes, I am living proof!!! This also works for varicose veins!!!
3<<<Do you transition into it first- A few days of just fruit first.>>>
Sometimes I do transition with fruit. It's not necessary, but it does help.
4<<<Do you juice mostly vegtable juices over fruit juices? What ratio?>>>
Personally, I juice about 50-50. People with blood sugar problems and degenerative diseases like cancer or Crohn's disease should juice mostly, if not all, vegetables.
5<<<Do you juice mostly dark greens?>>>
Yes.
6<<<Do you juice wheatgrass or barelygrass on your fasts?>>>
Sometimes.
7<<<Do you ever add fat to your juices when doing an extended fast? Like Olive oil, flax oil or hemp oil? If so, which do you find the best?>>>
Yes, I always add flax oil and I believe hemp oil is the best.
8<<<Do you juice herbs when you fast? Mint, basil, sage, dill, dandaline... etc. etc.>>>
I've only tried dandelion.
9<<<What about garlic or ginger?>>>
You bet. Ginger is great for nausea and garlic mixed with cayenne pepper is Nature's antibiotic.
10<<<Is there certian foods you find to be the best to juice for maximum effectivness, nutrition or cleansing qualities?>>>
For many reasons, melons, carrots, and leafy greens are my favorites.
11<<<Do you juice vegis and fruits together?>>>
No, except for apples.
12<<<Do you exercise just as much and intensly when you fast?>>>
Yes, I do now since I'm only exercising 15-20 hour a week. When I used to exercise 50 hours a week, I had to cut back by 50% because I couldn't juice and drink 5000 calories a day.
13<<<Since you are getting adequate calories when juicing.. the body never goes into "ketosis" which is what is supposed to happen to the body when you water fast...Is it important for the body to go into "ketosis" to really heal itself?>>>
For the body to heal itself, the first condition is rest. A water fast is the ultimate rest provided the individual has adequate reserves and the time and money to take a vacation from life and its responsibilities. Juice fasting, for many, is a much more practical way of giving our bodies a much needed vacation while at the same time replenishing our much depleted reserves.
14<<<Do you dilute your juices with water?>>>
No
15<<<What do people mean by "chewing" there juices?>>>
"Chewing" your juices or sloshing them around mixes with saliva and will also let your stomach know what's coming.
16<<<How much produce do you find you need to buy when doing a juice fast? How many bunches of spinach, pounds of carrots ect. will you go through in 1 day?>>>
It takes about 16 pounds of carrots or leafy greens to make one gallon of juice which is a good rule of thumb for how much to drink every day. Melons yield more like 75% juice, so 11 pounds will make close to one gallon. These are amounts for the average person...I do about twice this much.
17<<<I get very dizzy when I drink juices- esp. fruit juices and it stimulates my appetiate. This has made me afraid to do a juice fast- and limits how much juice I drink period. Do you still think that I could do it?>>>
Yes, but you know your body better than anyone else. Listen and obey. If you do decide to do a juice fast, be sure to not stand up too quickly or otherwise you will get dizzy or light headed.
18<<< Would the dizzyness go away?>>>
There are no guarantees, but these symptoms will probably go away as you continue on this journey for a better life.
19<<< It feels like a sugar rush and my body can't handle it!>>>
If you're having problems with sugar, stick with vegetables at first and add fruit based on how you feel. Once again listen and obey to what your body tells you.
20<<<When you are eating whole foods... do you do as they also suggest on hacres.com and drink only juice until noon.. and drink a glass of juice 1/2hr. before a meal?>>>
I usually don't eat solid food for my first meal of the day and I do sometimes preceded my meals with juices.
21<<<Do you eat mostly fruits or mostly vetables?>>>
Since I am still pretty active, I eat more fruits than I do vegetables. I usually have one huge salad of green leafy vegetables, ~20 ounces with 3 ounces of tahini every day.
22<<<Do you eat your fruits alone?>>>
Half the time I eat my fruits alone and the other half I might eat as many as 3 different fruits at a time.
23<<<Do you limit your fat intake?>>>
No, but if I ate less calories, than I would. But since I'm eating ~3500 calories a day, I believe that it makes more sense for me to eat more fat so that I don't have to process so much bulk.
24<<<Do you find semi-proccessed foods don't do well with you or clog you up? ie: lots of mixtures of different foods- lots of spices- sauces- dehydrated foods?>>>
As long as I ate 100% raw after I fasted, I never had a problem. But as soon as I ate cooked food, no matter what it was, it plugged me up. The only time that I have any problems now is when I eat too many nuts or too many avocados. I don't eat dehydrated foods, but I imagine that I'd have the same problem with them since they too are low in water.
25<<<Do you eat "light" as to not ever feel too "full"?>>>
Not always, but if I do eat a lot, I never feel bloated.
Peace and Love..........John
i just use saran wrap or deli paper, no pit, and in the fridge it doesn't even get brown. the amount of fat we need is mostly already in fruits!! then i just use tiny bits of hemp seeds, and occasionally about 1/10th to 1/15th of an avocado!
I cover with cling wrap (with or without the stone) and refigerate it. Yes, after a day, the cut part that's been exposed to the air has turned a brownish hue. However, I just cut off that brown section and the avo is normal colour underneath.
The avo will last almost a week like this, but it appears that some people don't try to see how far the 'brown' has penetrated into the avo, and just throw it out sad smiley
