Sugar pumpkins

Date: October 03, 2013 04:57PM I first heard the term last year on a video by Raw Kristina where she used one in a raw recipe.
The other day I saw some at Trader Joe's and bought one, planning to blend it in a drink. When I cut it, I was surprised at how easily my knife (just a paring type) cut into the pumpkin shell. But I was disappointed by the flesh. It seemed just like zucchini, very watery and not flavorful. I figured I got a bad one. I plan to take it back after reading more on sugar pumpkins. They should be less watery than the carving variety and flavorful (and I would think sweet!). Anyone ever used this type and have any insights on them? Re: Sugar pumpkins

Tell me more, tell me more (I feel like I'm in "Grease"! I am specifically asking how the innards should look and how they should taste. It looked to me like a weak-ass zucchini. I expected more solid, sweet flesh a la butternut squash or the like. Has anyone ever used this raw? I would sub it out. Re: Sugar pumpkins

Date: October 04, 2013 01:40AM I juice sugar pumpkins but I eat butternut squash raw. I cut them in small cubes and take them to work. They have a lot of vitamin A but not as sweet as carrots. The amazing about them is that the will clean your digestive system, they work better for me than cabbage. Re: Sugar pumpkins

Date: October 04, 2013 01:54AM There is a huge price drop after Halloween for the sugar pumpkins, good time to buy them. I always make sure I have a good supply of them. Re: Sugar pumpkins

I cut it in half so that wouldn't work... Aldi's is the parent company of Trader Joe's and is selling them for .50 less. I bought one there, too. I will post whether that one seemed better. Date: October 04, 2013 07:16AM You can have your pumpkins
And eat too. Not everything needs to be green, not everything needs to be fermented. There are many choices. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/04/2013 07:21AM by RawPracticalist. Re: Sugar pumpkins

Date: October 05, 2013 07:40PM LV, according to the pics posted here, it should be more bright orange and mine is light orange and resembling zucchini flesh. Not sweet, either. I am 0 for 2. Re: Sugar pumpkins
