Fructose

Is fructose from fruit completely harmless, as in you could eat a bunch of dates and have no ill effects, or can you still tax your liver with fructose even if all of the fructose is from fruit? Assuming you are a healthy individual with no health issues.

According to American Journal of Clinical Nutrition:

"High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has been implicated in excess weight gain through mechanisms seen in some acute feeding studies and by virtue of its abundance in the food supply during years of increasing obesity. Compared with pure glucose, fructose is thought to be associated with insufficient secretion of insulin and leptin and suppression of ghrelin."

I certainly wouldn't base a diet on dates, but dates are rich in minerals. 100g of medjool dates (about 4) contains 14% magnesium, 20% potassium, 18% copper, 15% manganese, 6% calcium, 5% iron, 6% phosphorus, and a nice chunk of B vitamins.

jtprindl, the study does not talk about fruit. think in terms of the whole diet instead of studying elements in a vacuum. it is the "other" stuff that can make fruit get a bad reputation. Some people make circles around bad habits and create diets that work around fats and oils. Fats and sugar don't mix. Sugar is the energy from the sun. Fruit is the most healthy food ever.

What study? I know fruit is extremely healthy, I was referring to excess (key word: excess) fructose from fruit and its effects on the body. From my knowledge, it taxes the liver.

Lol why are you making blind assumptioms? Perhaps you're mistaking my posts with someone else. Trust me, I know the difference between high fructose corn syrup and naturally occurring fructose from fruits. That doesn't mean you can't overdo fructose from fruits. Do you know of any studies that suggest any amount of fructose from fruits is harmless?

it is not easy to say it in a single message, but the metabolism of sugar is complex and has many variables. Some people are almost type2 diabetics and don't know it because of their low sugar diet. fats block the insulin receptor in cells. fructose does not require insulin. Guide your self by feeling and not so much theories.

hey...

I'm not sure of the answer myself however I found right here this outstanding transformational soul searing video which CEASELESSLY:

1. cuts asunder into the fibrous substance of fruit
2. tears apart all the rinds and myths to get at the pithy TRUTH
3. until the seeker is just SURROUNDED by all fibrous the mystery that fruit has to offer
4. the seeker , in the end, is humbled by all the challenges that fruit throws at him

truly awe inspiring

As you can see, our boundlessly stolid fruit hero (above) was absolutely BESIEGED by fructose... non stop.
But you do not have to have the same fate befall you. Please buy my book:

" How to Be a Fruit Ninja by Eating just The Right Amount"

by La Veronique aka "Plant Ninja"

fruit - ok but not as loaded with minerals ( comparatively speaking)

veggies - MUCH higher density of minerals

i prefer veggies to be my "80"
