Is there anyone like me who finds flax and hempseeds

to be suspect? Like it doesn't seem kosher or something? I am not the type to be uber sensitive to foods but I find that flax oil always tastes rancid to me. Same with hempseed. I bought some hemp hearts and they just don't seem edible to me. There is always an aftertaste of bitterness and nastiness. I realize that sesame seeds have the same issue. I suspect that they are very suspectible to rancidity. I have gotten rid of some of the bitterness by soaking unhulled sesame seeds.

Chia seeds are supposed to be very shelf-stable and so I bought several pounds because I want to start consuming them on a regular basis. They also have omega-3s so I don't need to consume flax for it, in other words.

chia seeds are good. You only need like 2 grams od ALA a day (if amega 6 is low - low fat diet)

This is an interesting vid about the myth of eating fish oils to get EPA DHA

I have never had trouble with flax oil but it needs to be fresh and you need to use it up before long. Yes, you have to be careful with hemp seed because they have ben taken out of the shell and exposed to the air, especially from the bulk bins. I can just look at them and tell if they are any good. Manitoba is the best and can be found just about any health food store. Sesame seeds are pretty good but ALL nuts and seeds go bad if not stored properly. The problem is that the stores do not do this. I really pays off to find a good source and stick with them. It also helps to know when they are harvested AND if your source is still selling last years crop. It is an art to just find the GOOD foodstuff in this type of diet.

I wouldn't buy hemp seeds from a bulk bin unless it were refrigerated in the store. I buy the 5 pound container of Manitoba hemp seeds and store it in my refrigerator. I also try not to open the big container all the time by putting a pint of the seeds into a smaller container that I used to get my seeds, and the refresh the little container from the 5 pound container.

My sesame seeds I store in the freezer, and keep a small bag of them in my fridge.

But sesame seeds need to be sprouted.

I buy my flax and sesame seeds with hulls in bulk bags from distributers as it's way cheaper that way. I keep most of the seeds dry and cool for several years at a time. They remain viable and I have had no problem with them going rancid.

I only buy the brown flax as I don't trust or like the yellow flax.

I don't trust or like hemp seeds either - maybe because I have only bought non-viable unsproutable ones from Canada. As they suck up radiation like a sponge, (like sunflowers do), I have avoided these products for three years due to their being grown in a major fallout zone of radiation from Fukushima in the Pacific Northwest.

Pre-ground flax (like Bob's Red Mill) tastes "off" to me.

Hempseeds (again, like Prana, raw small batches) taste fine to me.

Flax that I buy and grind myself tastes fine to me (even bulk), usually the lighter colored ones taste "better".

I have been storing some shelled hemp in the freezer for quite a while. It's just a bitter aftertaste. sad smiley

Why do the seeds have to be put in the freezer while in the store where they came from they were not in the freezer?
