Raw vanilla

Date: January 21, 2014 03:38PM Hey, I bought raw organic vanilla powder several years ago and I've finally gone through it. I love the flavor of vanilla but I am not sure I will buy the powder again. It was a bit strong and I want a more subtle flavor. I am thinking of getting a bundle of vanilla beans. Does anyone have a vanilla powder that is not as intense as mine? Edited 1 time(s). i think no one responded cuz u did not specify the name brand of the raw organic vanilla powder that you were using if you did, that would have given people a framework to work with u asked if something was more "subtle" no one can answer that unless they have actually tasted the powder you used but we would need a name or link to that product first just my observation Re: Raw vanilla

Sorry. It was from the Raw Food World. I dislike naming names because I am not putting it down in the least. I found that it worked quite well in many dishes but it may have been due to using the outer part that altered the flavor for me. I am thinking of a glycerite infusion (using the pods) and then using the bean scrapings for my dishes. Re: Raw vanilla

Date: January 28, 2014 09:34PM What you scrape from the beans will probably be just as intense as the powder, just more fresh.
I don't buy them often, but when I do, I always buy from here. [www.bostonvanillabeans.com] Edit, just read this, and it looks like the Tahitian vanilla is the milder one. [www.bostonvanillabeans.com] Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 01/28/2014 09:36PM by swimmer. Re: Raw vanilla

The prices seem quite reasonable! They say there is a Mexican vanilla shortage. I wonder where the Raw Food World sources the powder from? Re: Raw vanilla

------------------------------------------------------- > WHy do people scrape the beans, cant you just cut > up your entire vanilla stick in the vitamix I scrape the beans when I'm using vanilla for dry dishes because the outer shell of the pods pulverizes to a gritty tasting unpleasant texture and the outer pods also taint the pure vanilla flavor, IMO. That's why I don't like to buy powdered vanilla, too. I can taste the outer pods in the powder. The VitaMix works well to pulverize whole vanilla pods in with liquids but I can taste the outer pods in thebliquid, too, so I no longer do that either. The next time I pulverize a batch of xylitol I'll pulverize a scraped vanilla pod with it to see how that works out. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/30/2014 01:30AM by SueZ. Re: Raw vanilla

BINGO, Suzy! You win the Internet. So true. I was kind of disappointed to taste the raw vanilla powder because it didn't remind me of that delicate flavor of vanilla. What you can do to stretch it as much as possible is scrape the bean for recipes where you want to detect that delicate flavor and soak the scraped pod in glycerine or alcohol.
