Talk to me about NETTLE!

How many here use stinging nettle or root in their food? Can I eat the root raw or must it be cooked? How do I make a nettle tea/soup?

Im planning a trip into the bush and want to live off the land. Nettle will be a big staple of my diet so am looking for some tips smiling smiley

I use 1/4 cup dried nettle leaves per quart of water for concentrated sun tea. I then dilute it by x2 to drink the next day if I'm not going to refrigerate. If you are going to be grinding fresh leaves for tea use 3x the dry amount, by volume, and then strain. If your tea doesn't get hot enough you might still get stung so be careful.

If you leave the roots and 2/3's of each plant you will leave enough for the plants to survive and also something for the next people who come along to have. There are plenty of plants to forage from. You won't need to kill them to get enough to eat.

You would be wise to bring a pair of cotton gloves along for picking nettle leaves.

I do, its in my backyard.
I juice it.

I get stung so much, I don't want to try anything else. Its very S&M if you want to whip your naked lover who is tied up and blindfolded...it freaking stings!
Can you see my photo of me juicing with apples? THEY SAY ITS THE PLANT WITH THE MOST CHLOROPHYLL
