Anyone See this Video on the Today Show?

In my opinoin, it was very poorly done. Most of the story focuses on one part of the entire organic issue: freshness and how that affects safety. Just four tests (lettuce, broccoli, milk and chicken) show that the organic food goes bad faster. Well, of course it goes bad faster!! I htink most people that buy organic already know that, and expect that. I would rather have my food go bad faster than have it be full of pesticides and preservatives. Thanks, but I'll continue to buy organic! I hate when shows do terrible stories like this.

It reminds me of something I overheard several years ago. A child has just asked their mum what 'organic' means. The mum says something like 'it means it's got bugs in it'!

True. My grandma and grandad had a garden, outside the town. When I visited them, we would travel by tram to get there. Her response to having bugs in the apples or other fruit was that "if a bug wants to eat it, this means it's good"! There were lots of yummy fruit in their garden.

How stupid. I think I can deal with food going bad faster rather than eating food full of poisonous chemicals. Plus organic produce just tastes better, it's no wonder people don't get their "5 a day".

The funny thing about this whole "5 a day" movement that is so big, is that you need to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day to be healthy, no one is out there advocating "5 portions of meat a day" or "5 portions of diary a day", hmmm I wonder why.
I am getting off topic here...

Oh yeah, the other thing about this that annoys me is when I hear people refer to non-organic as "Normal Produce", surely organic food is more normal than chemical treated. Organic should be the norm, there should be Organic food and Chemical Treated food, then perhaps people's perspective would change.

You know "Organic" is or can be a godsend for us
produce consumers but I hate how there's different
meanings for the word "Organic".
I believe there's 3 or 4 different definitions of the
word "Organic" that the food industry can use.
I'll post later what there exact meanings are but here's
what I've gathered::

*100% Organic: Anything and everything has to be truly
natural (no GMO's, pesticides, herbicides, hormones,
antibiotics, Etc.)

*Organic: 95% or better has to be natural.

*There's 2 other defintions but.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I've never seen any
Fruits, nuts or vegetables with the tag/label "100% Organic" on
it. Only the tag/label "Organic"winking smiley I've shopped at most Co-ops or Health food stores (Wild
Oats, Good Earth, Living Harvest, Growers Market).

So in a sense we're not really buying fruit/veggies/nuts
that is truly "ALL ORGANIC/100%",,,,,,,
Yes/No?????

Rawdev, what you are refering to are the laws relating to products made with organic ingredients, eg an organic jam could be 60% organic fruit, 35% organic sugar and 5% non organic perservatives, gelling agent, whatever, but as raw fooders that generally doesn't interest us, a piece of fruit or veg is either organic or not, it can't be 80% organic.

I understand what your saying Rob but/so,
we (people who only buy nuts, veggies and
fruits) don't have to worry about the different
USDA defintions of "Orgainic"?

I'm mean with most if not all veggies/fruits/nuts
sold in most if not all health food/co-ops only have
the plain "Organic" label/tag on them, not "100%"
Doesn't that mean there only
95% Organic?
What's the other 5%?

No, I don't think we need to worry!

A piece of fruit is either 100% organic or not organic, it can't be anything in between, so I assume that just saying organic for a single ingredient product means that it is 100% organic.
