Date: April 30, 2014 10:31PM I buy conventional strawberries because it's just such a difference. I would rather eat conventional strawberries than organic bread. And sweet peppers are hard to find organic at a price that is not absurd. Whole Foods sells them for around $3.99 or more a pound. I think Trader Joe's has them much cheaper but still, I use them all the time and I just don't feel bad using the conventional. Lettuce and some other greens I will buy organic. Re: dah dirty dozen

Date: April 30, 2014 10:47PM Usually the bigger the difference in price between the poisoned and organically raised produce the more toxins they have to use if they don't want to grow things the right way.
I don't think it's possible to get all the toxins they use on strawberries off/out of them. I'd rather eat half as many of the organic ones or go with conventional lettuce which at least has smooth cleanable surfaces. I have done tests with tortoises and the parrot here with conventional and organic corn on the cob. None of them touched the conventional and ate all the organic corn. Peapod sells red peppers two for $4.99. Not too bad. Re: dah dirty dozen

Date: May 01, 2014 05:07PM I don't feel bad having conventional strawberries. I am looking forward to a time when they will be available more readily and I can have them more often. The way I look at it, any toxic elements are offset by the fiber and other elements that detoxify the body. Re: dah dirty dozen

Fruit fiber can latch onto some toxins, like certain heavy metals, and carry them out of the body, but I don't think it's going to do much to offset pesticides and herbicides. Re: dah dirty dozen

But I just have a limit. Same with red peppers. 2 for $5 doesn't work for me. And I wonder about the little sweet peppers and if they also are included in the dirty dozen or not. Re: dah dirty dozen

Date: September 04, 2014 06:23AM One workaround is to buy frozen strawberries rather than fresh, since pesticide residues have been found to be much lower. Organic for strawberries is of course always still best. Re: dah dirty dozen

Date: September 04, 2014 06:37PM LaV, didn't see your post with the video. I intend to own property one day where I can grow berries and other fruits--maybe even figs!
One of the dirty dozen is bell peppers. I never think about that because I am more familiar with apples and pears. I buy some organic and some conventional. The most common organic produce I buy are lettuce, carrots, raisins, and apples. Re: dah dirty dozen

Date: September 06, 2014 05:51PM I got sent to a yahoo page with a bunch of articles, one of which is saying high dose vaccines are good for you. I did not see an article about strawberries and pesticides. But yeah. Organic all the way. I am all for that. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/06/2014 05:52PM by coconutcream.
