Am I the only one who isn't very fond of dates?

I bought some dates from the grocery store the other day. I must say I was ready to gag. I do not really like them. It's too bad many recipes call for dates lol. I rather eat a fig! Yummy!!!

I don't eat them because they are too sweet! Give me a green smoothie or a green salad instead!! Now that's good!

I like them in some recipes, but I can't eat them plain - too sweet.

Most dates from the grocery store are not very good.

A health food store down the street from me has some delicious dates. They have 4 different flavors to choose from and all are good.

I recently bought a box from 'The Date People' in California and their dates are delicious. They have over 40 different types. I bought 4 different flavors, the dates were freshly picked from the tree and shipped to me.

You should give dates a second try and purchase them from a different store or website. The dates from [www.livingtreecommunity.com] are good.

I've had several different types:
Deglect Noor (aka honey date & the most common), Desert
Delight, Desert Moza, Medjool (2nd most common), Barhi (or
Bahri), Zahanni and Golden Zahaidi.

The honey dates are really sweat and high on the Glycemic
chart.

Desert Moza (substanially less sweet) are my
favorite, followed by Golden Zahaidi

I prefer the ones which are very dry, and the less sweet. The ones I don't like are the large moist ones, especially if they are pre-pitted. I think that introduces more chance of molding, bacteria etc...

When I eat dates, it's usually WITH something else. For example, take half a diced apple, half a diced pear, a couple of sliced dates, ditto on the sliced figs.... toss in some sprouted (soaked) walnuts - if that's to your liking - and WOW! BREAKFAST! mmmm

I only like them dried, I like them in recipes or will just eat a couple on occaision. You could use raisins in a recipe instead of dates, usually the dates are added to sweeten it.
