Talk about carrots.

Hey,

I read that carrots are overcultivated but I realize that there are other varieties other than orange. Are those a better choice than orange? and what sort of health benefits do carrots have?

thanks

Carrots used to be tiny little things, but with selective breeding we made them big.

Yes, you can get older carrot strains, and if I remember correctly they are different colors and are also some what smaller than modern carrots. An ex-girlfriend of mine used to grow them, very tasty. Sorry I don't remember where she got them from or the varity name.

Thinking about the "progress" we've made with making our food bigger, just imagine what things might be like 100 years from now. Blue berries the size of strawberries, oranages the size of mellons, zuccini the side of french bread loafs....

Cheers,
Ian.

Same with avocados. Wild avocados are the size of olives.

Maybe they make you hungry because they don't have many calories!! I remember at one point in raw i ate mostly vegetables... drinks and soups and salads, etc. and i couldn't figure out this same thing -- until someone pointed out that vegetables have barely any calories!

That is such a trip that avocados used to be that tiny. Thanks for that tidbit. I guess that would make it harder to overeat on them way back in the day.

Love,
Uma
