greems are sometimes salty?

Occasionally, when I buy certified organic kale or collards, they are very salty. Do you know if people spray some sort of salty solution on their organic crops? I've tried and failed to wash off any residue, so maybe there is no residue, and greens are just salty sometimes. But, it's much more salty than cooked food I used to eat, after I would add table salt to it.

Nope, I think they are naturally salt. I've also had salty tasting greens from a home organic garden (and we definately didn't do anything like spray salt on
them). We did at the time live near the ocean, so maybe something in the soil from the sea? But I don't think so.

Cheers,
Ian.

I can't remember reading or hearing anything about collards. But I do remember reading in David Wolfe's Sunfood Diet Success System that kale is high in sodium. So, it must be true!

I had the same question -- lately I've been gobbling up lots of baby spinach -- the kind you get in the plastic bins at the store. Aside from being sweet and tender, it also tastes very salty to me. I was wondering why. Maybe that's why I keep craving more of it! I looked up its sodium content and it does have several times more than lettuce, but not nearly as much as celery. I too was also suspicious that it was sprayed with some salty solution, but maybe not! Anyways I've been really enjoying it.

Love,
Uma
