Here's a peek into your precious horse racing industry. [www.nytimes.com]

Before yesterday's race, I heard an interview with Steve Cauthen. He is a horse racing advocate, one of the greatest jockeys of all time, but even he mentioned the problem with drugging animals in American horse racing. Everyone knows that abuse is rampant in that "sport," yet here on a vegan board we have people who think that it's all peaches and watermelons.

Me, too! One of mankind's best friends and greatest partner in life's work for eons.

Yes, they are domesticated just like we are and probably for as long! Horse's and human's fates and histories have certainly been intertwined.

Hell no - leave the dirty work to someone else. I'm not going to muck out stalls either.

Akhal Tekes! Lovingly bred by Teke Turkmen tribesmen for who knows how long -one Akhal Teke was Julius Caesar's favorite horse. As I recall there is a statue memorial to that horse still standing somewhere.

They are expensive to have taken care of for you at the stables in my neck of the woods that's for sure. Even at the one's that don't have stable men that do practically everything for you like meeting you at the door with your horse all ready to go at your beck and call. There is a stable like that a half mile down the road from me but it must cost a fortune to keep a horse there. Out of my range that's for sure, but the vet I know who keeps her horse there always looks perfect after riding. Never a wrecked manicure or broken nail or hair out of place for her. Must be nice.

Is crossing Australia with a camel vegan, true love or or animal abuse?

You guys have to see this great movie on Netflix about a young girl and her camel and the National Geographic team that followed her.

Its a true story.

Her name is Robyn Davidson- she took a dog with her. I dont know if its vegan but she loved her animals and took care of them and without her they would have been killed.

COAST TO COAST

Vegan or not?

Is it vegan to have a pet?

Is it vegan to draw a horse?

DO you guys know what animal socialism is and how there are people in power who would love to use that to take more control of people? Take away property, make rules for taking freedoms away?

DR and Free put down two of their dogs due to customs issues. Would the Triple Crown winner's owners do that?

Is it vegan to cut out testicles and cut open and destroy vaginas of animals against their will? In the name of "fixing"? How does that fix them? Is it vegan to mass murder dogs and cats? In the name of Euthanasia- "putting down" as DR called it. Is that vegan? Answer me.

**Correction** I remembered wrongly. It was not Julius Caesar but Alexander the Great. The horse's name was Bucephalus. Bucephalus died in battle and was buried in in what is now Pakistan.

Yes Suez horse love exists, and I think its vegan to love a horse and care for it. If you can. Most horseback rider girls I know are already vegan.

Is it possible to be a bird lover and have a bird lover group and have meetups where you talk about nirds, yet pool money together for a Thanksgiving Turkey...now thats a question.

I love horses, but I wouldnt eat them. I think we are all finding the way and it will be revealed to us soon. What indeed is vegan.

David Wolfe and his raw honey used to be very vegan but now thats changed. Is it bee spit or is it nectar?

Lucky Bucephalus. He got to go into someone else's battle and die what was likely a horrific death.

I am not going to claim to be an "ethical vegan" type vegan and don't think those who claim to be that have really thought things out a step or two back beyond the most obvious and visible problems we face as animal and nature loving humans. Either that or they are just average garden variety hypocrites.

There is a lot of hypocrisy, IMO, when it is not acceptable to wear silk because it kills moth pupa but it is considered OK to abort human fetus', for instance. Or it's not OK for "ethical vegans" to kill animals to eat but it's fine for them to buy killed animals to feed to their pets. Or it's horrible for pounds to kill unwanted abandoned pets but it's fine for PETA to kill them. Or it's wonderful for "ethical vegans" to hold a fruit festival in a country known worldwide as one of the worst for animal and human cruelty but do nothing much while there but ride bikes, eat, and jump off the edges of flooded abandoned strip mines for thrills and giggles while ranting on youtube videos for others to do something.

>ranting on youtube videos for others to do something

the "something" that they wish others to do is go vegan. and they have influenced many.

according to you, they can't have any fun in the process.

brilliant.

>hold a fruit festival in a country known worldwide as one of the worst for animal and human cruelty but do nothing much

so when visiting another country, one must survey all their rights violations, and protest at least one of them.

if you go just to have fun, that is hypocritical.

if you try to influence people to go vegan through social media, that's not enough.

you must check with suez to find out what exactly must be done.
perhaps you could approve the travel plans of the vegan crowd - have a little stamp with "suez approved" on it or "denied"

Any of the faux "ethical vegan" trolls (who's posts I skim over) answering your questions?

ah, now we must answer questions that we don't find interesting. ok

- don't know anything about that, so unable to comment

> Would the Triple Crown winner's owners do that?

I don't know and don't see the relevance.

>Is it vegan to cut out testicles and cut open and destroy vaginas of animals against their will? In the name of "fixing"? How does that fix them?

is that a good thing? obviously not for the animal.
do we sometimes do things to prevent a greater negative effect?

is driving a truck that spews exhaust a good thing?
no.
does it get you your food?
yes

is farming food vegan? are no animals harmed by farming fruits/veggies?
do you wish to eat?

>Is it vegan to mass murder dogs and cats? In the name of Euthanasia- "putting down" as DR called it. Is that vegan? Answer me.

again, don't know what you are referring to.
is somebody trying to make the claim that someone in particular approves of everything DR does? i don't see anyone here making the claim that they approve of everything DR does. so not sure of the point here.

Maybe if she didn't post huge, useless photos that completely screw the formatting of the site, it would be possible to actually read and make sense of these questions of which you speak. Feel free to PM them to me or ask her to get rid of that picture. In the meantime, I'm not going to waste my time having to horizontal scroll through every one of these posts to find the questions.

I am vegan. I am a dreamer.....I believe in the liberation of all animals. I believe that this is their planet also. It was meant more from them than for humans. Humans could not survive if it wasn't for their ego and an intellect in an acute state.

I would walk with a horse side by side. I cannot fail to notice here in NYC, the use of a bit in a horse. A metal rod is placed at the corners of the horse's mouth. This is the riders breaks. The horse has his jaws opened and I believe they cannot swallow properly. Foam comes out of their mouth when tired. Neither, I think, they can eat properly. They pull the weight of a carriage which is connected somehow to this bit. I wonder if others notice this?

Tourists come and take pictures next to a tired, overworked horse. This may be the only connection to nature and earth. Disconnection is so great that there is no idea that lamb, chicken and beef were animals before. Only a tighly cellophane wrapped package at the supermarket. There are other ways to see NYC. The buildings here are great architecture. A gentle stroll and a sense of aesthetic does not need an animal to push them through. Yet, these animals under all kinds of bad weather push through and a lot comes from the corner of their mouths. The BIT.

The master cracks the whip on the "beast", bringing more pain, more suffering and more submission. An upside down world to me. Anybody noticed this? How can this be overlooked, ignored, shrugged?

Beautiful creatures who were meant to eat fresh grass and run the green, green prairies.....I am a dreamer, I am a dreamer............

I never said that it's okay to abort a human fetus.

Or it's not OK for "ethical vegans" to
> kill animals to eat but it's fine for them to buy
> killed animals to feed to their pets.

This is what we often refer to as a "conundrum." The world has set itself up in a way where it's extremely difficult if not impossible to be a perfect vegan. I accept this; however, I also see that it's simpler to be vegan in some ways than others. For example, I don't need to break a horse, stick a bit in its mouth and ride it in order to survive. Not enslaving horses is one of the easy ways to be vegan.

Or it's
> horrible for pounds to kill unwanted abandoned
> pets but it's fine for PETA to kill them.

Who said that it's okay for PETA to kill animals?

Or it's

I've never been to Thailand or a fruit festival. I have committed the crimes of bike riding and eating, but otherwise I know nothing of these activities. You're obviously addressing Durianrider and Freelee instead of the people who are actually here discussing this with you.
