Never thought I'd see the day!

Date: February 19, 2016 06:57AM My local grocery had young coconuts for one dollar each! This store wasn't even as steep as Whole Foods. I think this store normally charges about $2.79. Whole Foods used to charge $3.00 and then yanked up the price to about $4.99 for conventional. So last week they had them on sale for $2 a piece and I got two of them. But I should have known that if WF's charges $2 then the mainstream store will charge half that.
I wonder if there is a glut of these puppies... Re: Never thought I'd see the day!

Date: February 21, 2016 08:12PM I had similar situations, the price of the young coconut was dropped from about 4 dollars to half but but but the coconuts when you open them are no good.
The big lesson is that just because it is a young coconut does not necessarily make it good to eat. Many of them have been harvested months before and not mature and the meat and water inside has turned purple-lish. The sprouts and indoor greens are always fresh. Edited 2 time(s). Date: February 23, 2016 05:47AM I know and I haven't opened any yet. There is always that possibility however since it was a sale at two different chains, my feeling is that there is a glut for whatever reason. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
