Date: January 10, 2007 08:49PM Hello All,
I just started talking in another post about Tropical Fruit World, here near Byron Bay in Queensland, Australia - and realised that it deserves a posting all by itself. Perhaps we can all contribute what we know and have some fantastic spots to visit when we travel to different countries. TFW is an amazing place to visit - if we lived closer, I would bug them for a job..it is so fantastic. They boast the largest variety of fruit grown in the world. I will list some of the fruit they have: (you may of may not have heard of them before): ABIU - the caramel fruit (really sensational) BABACO - Champagne fruit Chocolate Sapote - Choc pudding fruit Grummichama Dragonfruit Ice Cream Bean Lemonade Fruit ( one of my personal faves) Lychee Macadamia Mamey Sapote (mother Chiku - awesome..will tell you about a recipe from this) Miracle fruit ( which alters your taste buds to makes something sour taste sweet) Rambutan Sapodilla Soursop Tropical Nectarine Wax Jambu and the list just goes on and on You go for a little tour of the place, and then head in for a taste test session, which is fabulous..dependiing on the season, and what is available. I love the mamey sapote so much I had to buy some. For those of you unfamiliar, they taste like pumpkin pie. So when it ripened, I decided to make it into a raw pumpkin pie. It is awesome!! I made a crust from dates and almonds I added nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla to the mamey sapote and popped it in the food processor and then added a whipped cream topping (compliments of Alissa Cohen's book) Served it to guests (non raw) and they loved it too. Here in Australia, we do not eat Pumpkin Pie (although I believe it can be popular in the States) so, for them to like it in the first place is exciting..but they really went for it!!! So, peoples, does anyone else have groovy places that would be of supreme interest to other Raw foodies?? Re: Does anyone else have an equivalent to our Tropical Fruit World??

It is truly an very interesting place - you are extremely lucky to have rellies in Byron Bay - it is an absolute must since you are a rawie!!! Try to avoid major holiday periods though, as the population of Byron Bay triples or something along those lines!!!! The website for Tropical Fruit World is www.tropicalfruitworld.com.au Have a browse - and if you come over, make it your first stop!!!! Rob, I wish you well in your endeavour..I have just started my little fruit paradise in my backyard...and it is so exciting seeing the new growth on the trees...I get more and more excited every day - there is really nothing like making your own food!!
