In November 1970, Offcials in Oregon USA Decided to blow up a rotting whale carcass. The whole thing went horribly wrong. Why bring this up? Well the story can teach us three things

The story begins when a 45 foot sperm whale wased up on the beach in Florance Oregon on november 1970.

There was some debate amongst the locals what to do about it.

1. although unpleasant, they coud leave it to decompose.

2.They could try chop it up and bury it (again not pleasant}

3.They could blow it up with dynamite and hope the seaguls ate the small chunks.

It was decided that leaving the whale to decompose would be to unpleasant in the short term.

No one wants the smell of when their eating christman dinner.

Fortunately at least for' the purpose of this history lesson, They chose opton 3
they would blow the whale up.

George Thornton who sensibly seems to be wearing a hard hat, Was the enginerr
in charge of the Explosion.

By his own admission, he was not sure how much dynamite would be needed to completely oblitorate one of the worlds lagest mammals, So he optid for a half tonne.

An Ex member of the military advised Goerge and other offcials that this was waaaay too much and a few sticks of dynamite would be enough.
They ignord his advice.

On 12 November, In front of a crowd excited spectators (Yes really )they exploaded the whale,...

Very quickly, The short sidedness of the plan became evident.

The huge amount of dynamite sent massive chunks blubber flying through the chily air, and it rained down on around the terrified on lookes.

The overwhelming smell sent people running for their homes as rotting whale plopped down around them.
the situation was dangerous- A car was even crushed by a hugh lump of blubber a
quarter mile way.

To cap everything off, the main bit of whale stayed exactly where it had been.
The problem had not gone away,

Only Now there where thousands of bits of the problem spread for miles around.

So why do we tell this story? Well as far as we can see there are three coronavirus lessons here.

1. DONT IGNOR THE ADVISE OF EXPERTS GIVE YO Sometimes, it better to sit at home and do nothing than -

2.Go outside and do somthing rediculous.
Let nature take its course.

When you ignor expert advise and act like an idiot,
You cover everyone else with decaying whale blubber
