natural tan from dates?

Date: January 16, 2007 01:46PM am wondering if anyone else has experienced this...
it seems to me that the pigment of my skin has deepened in the last month since i started consuming jumbo medjool dates w/ pecans on a daily basis. i've noticed that i look like i have a tan, and a couple of my colleagues have remarked as well. which i definitely do not. my olive complexion this time of year tends toward the sallow, yet my skin has a nice warm undertone to it. i don't juice. haven't had carrots in... seems like years. only now & then put sweet potatoe in my smoothies. the only thing that's changed: dates & pecans. anyone experienced this? if so, what component in the dates might be doing this? Date: January 16, 2007 09:39PM Any time you are curious about a plant's chemical consituents, you can consult the Dr. Duke database.
I see a variety of carotenoids which could impart some color to the skin and phenolic acids which would provide protection from UVA and UVB damages and also shift the skin response from burning to tanning. In addition, there is tyrosine which will help with melanogenesis. But these are not the only ones: there are many other phytochemicals present that could also do these things, only they might not have been studied so well yet. Date: January 17, 2007 07:21PM holy cow, arugula! thanks for the data. how do i go to dr. duke's database directly? the link didn't do it. and what association does that database have with ars-grin.gov?
cococream... from whom do you purchase your dates? i go through so many, it would make sense to buy them in bulk. still hoping others have more input...? Re: natural tan from dates?

Date: January 18, 2007 05:40AM what do you mean by fattening, taylor?
i find them very satisfying -- i eat them with pecans, and together they taste the way pecan pie wishes it tasted... the combo if very filling & satisfying. i never feel like i've overeaten them. Re: natural tan from dates?

Date: January 20, 2007 10:55PM Brian1cs, what is the intent of your comment? I simply pasted the output from a query because I was too lazy to prune out the data regarding only the fruit part of the plant.
I have seen much longer posts from others, including Admin and Mike. But you have not made snide remarks about the length of their posts. Re: natural tan from dates?
