shiitake, nutritional yeast

I primarily eat mono-fruit, with some easy to digest veggies, a bit of sea veg, some ginger, and kombucha tea. Re: shiitake, nutritional yeast

Date: January 18, 2007 02:02AM I think nutritional yeast is a waste product of the beer industry. And I don't believe it's raw. Sure smells good though, I used to love it on popcorn!

Date: January 18, 2007 02:46AM The 2 yeasts are the same yeast, they are just grown in different substances. Also, the nutritional yeasts tend to be fortified with B12. I know that Red Star brand uses cyanocobalamin. When cyanocobalamin is metabolized in the human body, the byproduct (or waste product) is cyanide.
Nutritional yeast is cooked, in case you didn't know. Most people like nutritional yeast and brewers yeast for the B complex vitamins. If you are a raw foodist eating a lot of leafy greens, you probably have enough of the B-complex vitamins in your diet already. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
