Is anyone preparing for or worried about this pandemic?
I'm concerned about it from time to time...

No! One, I'm not even sure it's real, two, as raw fooders, it shouldn't affect us anyway.

well-i am sort of concerned cause for 30 yrs we have gone to the clackamette river and feed flocks of geese and ducks and pigeons and such.now all of a sudden theres signs up not allowing people to feed the birds.same at the wildlife preserve we live at.i cann't help but feel there is a connection to the bird flu.like they want to avoid contact between birds(just in case it starts to happen)and humans.taylor

oh this is another thought.here where we live the birds walk all over the streets and guess what we all step in-goose poo!so then it is on our shoes or car tires...well!i had mentioned to my hubby a while back...if coming into any kind of contact with bird germs-we in this wildlife preserve will probably be some of the first to get the bird flu.taylor

So, am I just reading this wrong, or do some of you think that because one is healthy and a raw foodist that it makes ones immune to communicable viral diseases?

I am hoping and counting on our immune system to protect us from lots of things. We decided not to vaccinate our children for anything. I have to say I am a little nervous but the only way to protect ourselves in a healthy way is to be healthy, I think.

Yes, prety much. I beleive that if we are getting everything we need nutrition wise then our body could cope with almost anything. I'm not saying that I think I will never get ill, but the chance is so small that it's not something to worry about.

There is so much paranoia, you know I was taught to always wash everything before eating it, never to eat things that have been on the floor, use disinfectant to clean kitchen surfaces, always wash your hands with soap, etc, etc. I break all those rules all the time and it doesn't make me ill. Since going raw, I've only been 'ill' after eating some cooked food (basically cold symptoms for a few days) and once I got serious fatigue and had to stay in bed the best part of 4 days (but I had been missing a lot of sleep before that). Anyway, I seem to have gone on a bit of a rant here so I'll stop!

Donald Rumsfield just happens to be a majority stake holder in the company that claims to have or be developing a Bird Flu vaccine.... So, it's probably just a bunch of scare mongering to create massive profits... very sad.

On the other hand, there are a lot of people on this planet. If pandemic does happen, and we have 20% or better fatality rate, it's going to be a good thing for the planet.

Don't worry about it, live your life to the fullests. winking smiley

As for raw verses a/the virus, at thankings giving (45 people in a cabin in the eastern seirrias) there was a Norwalk virus out break, over 90% of my friends got really sick. I was one of 3 or 4 people that didn't get any symptoms. Raw probably doesn't protect you directly, but if you're healthy you can repel viral attacks.

Cheers,
Ian.

Hmmm, I would totally be interested in some real stats on raw foodists and illness beyond detox. I'd also be interested if some symptoms being labeled as detox are actually illness of a bacterial or viral nature. Have there been any studies on this?

We don't use any anti-bacterial products, and I'm certainly not a germ nazi.... as evidenced by my messy house right now! I really only wash the stuff I buy, and just the dirt off the stuff I grow. I don't mind germs, but I cringe when I get a crunchy dirt bite.... blech.

How long have you been raw, Rob?

Believe me, that factoid has not escaped attention here. I can discuss the current admin's lining of their pockets through scare tactics all day. Grrrrrr.

Heh, I guess that would be Gaia's way of detoxing, eh?

I'm just getting over a nasty head/chest infection... I hope I will get to a health level eventually where outbreaks roll past me, too.

Cheers back at ya,

Judy

i agree with funky rob & sodoff... and after a cursory view of gabriel cousen's info on the flu, am impressed. will definitely read more carefully.

live life, eat live, be happy, be real, dance...

the world is full of unsavory characters with well-organized ill intent for the masses. letting fear take hold feeds right into their agenda... but being happy & sovereign creators of our own happy lives... *fabulous* grinning smiley

I'm not for sure I believe in the bird flu, just sounds like a bunch of scare tactics to me. I also believe they are studying the wrong thing. There are literaly 1000's of virus in our body that are harmless, and it's so easy to point to one and blame it on sick birds, and birds die every year in clusters for various reasons. rather it be toxic, chemical, bacterial, etc. and to say it's going to happen in humans is extremely profitable. Millions die from the flu every year. You can make a profit if you start calling these deaths virus related!!

Actually, there is a bit more of a scientific process involved, and the pandemic projections are based on past virulent pandemics such as the 1918 "Spanish Flu" pandemic. Oh, and flu IS a viral disease. Right now based on the deaths already attributed to the "bird flu," it has a 70% fatality rate. That is phenomenal compared to the estimated 2.5% death rate of the 1918 pandemic which killed around 50 million people worldwide.

There most definitely is a possibility of a pandemic developing at some point in our future. Maybe not be in our lifetime, but surely the possibility exists. It may never reach the predicted proportions because we're always going to be told a worse-case scenario.

On an interesting note, I read this following story this morning, and had to chuckle a little to myself: [tinyurl.com] I especially liked the 2nd comment under the article.

Nothing like a little good cheer in the morning, eh?

lol!

I think if you are raw and healthy most diseases, if the germ theory is right, will not affect you, I do. With all my heart..and for Gabriel Cousens, I studied under him and taken his classes and talks..and he is just another TYPE of doctor, selling stuff and fear, he is. I have seen it..and he is very good at it, and rich..
