OMG how adorable!!!! She is so pretty and so blonde..

wow, who knew Costa Rica could be so safe, I have been there in San Jose and stuff and it was the dirtiest poorest place I have ever seen..filled with hookers and casinos..I went river rafting from there and it was nice, but I was scared most of the time..scared of the jungle..funny, huh. I should love it, with all the fruits and stuff..

Thanks for all the kind words!

Yogamama - I was there for a month from mid december to mid january. Got back to the freezing temps in Lawrence, KS on Monday yawning smiley)

sgc - The reddish pear shaped thing is actually a water apple. They do look very much like a cashew apple, but the similarities stop there.

coconutcream - I agree that the cities are dirty in Costa Rica. I've been there 5 times now for a combined 6 months and not had any issues with safety. The beaches, jungle, and rivers are gorgeous!

Ha! There's no shortage of machete-wielding Ticos! I carry one when there, but not for protection, but so I can open a pipa (aka coconut) when thirsty yawning smiley)

These pictures were wonderful to see, both for your absolutely adorable daughter, and for the luscious-looking bounty.

Some friends and I are going to Costa Rica in mid-february for a couple weeks. I am so excited about all the fruit! Last time I was there I thought fruit was bad for me. *grinning* Do you have any suggestions for where to go for abundance or organics?

Thanks,
Love,
Uma

Hi Uma,

Mid February is one of the best times for fruit in CR! The mangos should be good and should be everywhere. For abundance, I recommend the Alajuela Farmers Market. If you are flying into San Jose, you will only be minutes from Alajuela. The market is only on Friday evenings (not sure what times) and Saturdays (5:30am to 2:00pm). We usually make it on our way in and/or out of the country. Imagine a football field full of fruit and veggie vendors. They call the market the Feria (not sure about the spelling, but sounds like Fair-eee-uh). Ask a taxi driver, tell him you want to buy fruit at the feria and he'll know what you're talking about.

Other than that, you'll see large fruit stands along all the major roads.

Organics is tricky in CR. If you ask the vendors, they all say it is organic. They just want to make a sale. I stopped asking after about 50 "si, si, organicos". I know there are some reputable organic delivery services used by most of the raw retreats that happen in CR, but I don't have there contact info. You could contact Cherie Soria, Doug Graham, or Frederic Patenaude for more info. They all run retreats with supposedly organic produce in CR.

Have fun, enjoy the fruit and sun, and let me know if I can help out any more.

Pura Vida,
DannyMacK

Hi na(raw)dia!

Yes, Audrey craves fruits just about whenever she's hungry. If it's sweet enough, she loves it. But fruit is almost always second fiddle to Mama's milk.

Pleased to meet you and your little one as well! I don't think there are too many of us Kansan's here! We were going to move to another state (we moved here from Phoenix a few years back to be with my husbands family), but now we found an amazing farm for sale in Paola, KS, so we might be staying after all!

She's sooo cute, and those blue eyes! I'd love to visit sometime..my cousin wants to retire there with her husband..open a missionary type retreat. I said she should make sure to get a big family compound and we'll retire with them!

Love,
Prism
