I've been hearing about how delicious it is to blend young coconut water and meat together with other things, so this morning I blended with with raw cacao nibs. It was truly exquisite! I think it's probably the best raw food I have ever had. It's so simple, delicious and satisfying. Oh JOY!!!

So i am intimidated by using coconuts even though i love the taste. Any advice on how to open and get meat out?

Starfruit,

I just bought a Henckel cleaver from Amazon.com. It's around $50 but well worth the cost. Turn the coconut on its side. Give it a hard whack to put a slit in it. Then drain. Once drained, work the cleaver back into the slit and cut off the top. Takes much less brute strength than any other method I've tried.

I also use a meat cleaver. They work great. I just whack a square opening into the top, sip or drain the liquid and spoon out the meat.
