I get goji berries in People's Co-op. They are little reddish dried berries, not very sweet. I googled, as I was curious to see what they look like fresh, etc. I am still wondering---anyone?--- do they grow anywhere here in states? They grow, Tiffany, in Tibet. Very high in vit C, antioxidants. Taste a little like cranberrie. Can be very dry (is that too old, too dry?) Does their dry state and travel affect the high nutritional content? Are they treated? At first, I thought they were weird, not sweet like I expected. I like them though. Use them in smoothies, yesterday took little baggie of them mixed with raisins and I really liked them that way. Or I mix them with shredded coconut. I like them more and more. I hope others post, as I would like to know what others know and think about them. I'm going to soak them, let them plump with water and see what that tastes like. The last ones I got seemed fresher, not as dry, and they were definitely better. Elakti Re: goji berry help!

Date: May 16, 2007 04:00PM Mmm, I like goji berries. I soak some overnight and use them in my smoothie in the morning, they plump up and are great like that but I also eat them dry as they are, sometimes with cacao nibs.
There is a photo of them fresh on the plant on this page: [en.wikipedia.org] Rob -- Rob Hull - Funky Raw My blog: [www.rawrob.com] Re: goji berry help!

I like goji berries in trail mix. Almonds, raisins, coconut, maybe some date pieces and walnuts. Delicious! Re: goji berry help!

Date: May 17, 2007 02:46AM There's a problem with some goji berries imported from China and Tibet -- in that they have dye added and such. I got some from Tibet off eBay and just from dropping some on my bedsheets they left dye marks. The only brand I really trust is Sunfood.com (formerly Nature's First Law) because I know that David Wolfe goes through a lot of extra pains to make sure that what he's getting from China is truly organic and not tainted.
I have never had fresh ones, but I really like the dried ones. Re: goji berry help!

and they are kind salty... and bland, and i LIKE them... they HIT the spot... MMMMMMMMM i did not like them soaked and then eaten plain, but for the vitamins i imagine they would be great blended... Love and Light Tiffntwins `•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸.´¯`•...¸><((((º> SWIM FREE FISHES! Re: goji berry help!

That's where dyes came from before synthetic dyes were invented. Rob -- Rob Hull - Funky Raw My blog: [www.rawrob.com] Re: goji berry help!

Date: May 17, 2007 09:26PM tamu, i just post the address text and the website magically turns it into a truncated hyperlink after its posted
btw, for that link i gave im not sure exactly what variety of goji they provide. if i were going to grow some goji, id probably do a little research and try to find something closest to the authentic tibetan strains, rather than the chinese decendents of the goji. these folks: [gojiberry.com] would probably have some experise on the matter. I soak them in water for 30 minutes and then blend them in my green smoothies. Mike Portland, OR Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
