well, i have just received my box of dates from sun organics .com and what can i say.. the kids asked me... can we grow a date tree from the seeds... i said... i THINK so... so i came home and decided to look up some info...

SO has anyone on this board grown a date palm from seeds of these and gotten a female tree or ANY tree that lasted very long?

while i was looking on line i found this story about 2,000 year old date seeds being found 30 years ago and this january a MAD scientists planted them and GUESS WHAT.. they grew... here is the link...

so it inspired me to say the least.... but i wanna know what expereince my fellow raw fooders have gotten with their own 15 pound box's of dates LOL...

btw.. does anyone want me to save my seeds for them too? cause i will if someone asks... they are deglet noor and SUPER tasty...

Love and Light

you need at least a hundred days a year over 100 degrees for a date palm to do its thing. You can't even grow a date that tastes like a real date in hawaii or florida. You need that dry desert heat.

Hmmm. Guess it wouldn't work in Iowa.

The tree will probably grow but it won't develop fruit yet. Maybe in 10 years if Global Warming occurs then the tree will have fruit!

I picked some delicious dates from a plam in southern Spain! (Cooler than Hawaii)

Ok, I can't type. A palm, you know a date palm, those tall things with dates growing on them...
