How to conquer conflicting nutritional information
Posted by: sahalies ()

I am just a beginner to the raw diet, but am having some difficulty in getting past the nutritional information I received growing up. After being told that one needs to eat from all the food groups at every meal to be healthy, my brain now finds it difficult to reprogramme this new information about raw foodism. I am wondering if anybody here went through these conflicting messages on how and what to eat and if so, how they conquered it. I am starting to transition to raw foods slowly, with thanks to Jodi's advice.

Opinion:

-There is only conflicting information EXTERNALLY. Do the research, and ask YOURSELF what YOU are the most motivated to do.....what YOU think would be the kindest diet and practices....and what YOU can do to support the global community.

-Once you focus on what YOU have determined to be the highest things......then the rest of the stuff (however true or not) becomes secondary. It's just a matter of focus.

I completely agree with Fresh. Another way of going about this would be to research some specific nutrients and find out which raw foods they are available from.

[www.nutritiondata.com] is a good site and it's Nutrient Search Tool in the Tools menu is very useful.

Thanks everyone for your insightful comments! I really appreciated your thoughts and I am doing alot of internal soul searching and the raw diet feels right for me now, in spite of the external eating rules. I have seen many nutritionists in my past and have just recently been able to question all the information I have learned from them, so that is a good sign. I have long since given up meat years ago, but I want to also give up all dairy, as that has been a staple of my diet. It has already been a big help for me in finding this website, so once again, many thanks to you all for your support.

i love your style....

by the way, what i was getting at is how silly the 4 food groups seem when you become a student of nature.

like....

ah, yes, we have decided that the mosquitoes MUST eat from the 5 mosquito food groups or they will suffer,

or
hmmm....well, sadly, the young lemur only ate from 6 of the 7 lemur food groups, he's probably going to be deficient in PROTEIN....

"Food groups" is a USDA convention. Their designations
are only protecting their self-interests and have nothing
to do with human health.

I think we ought to have new guidelines that go
by family, genus, species.

(Did you eat your crucifers today? Did you eat your
composites today? Did you eat your citrus today?)

And color!

To ease your mind I would research all the amino acids that are in fruits and vegetable and then you'll realize there is protein in vegetarian foods. I even learned this when I took a biology class although it was just a paragraph in the book that no one paid attention to. But if you do the research there are many vegetarian ways to get all your protein needs met.
