Date: July 06, 2007 08:08AM Do any raw food peeps know whether either of these goodies are available here? I read that you can't find durian in the UK at all, but maybe someone has seen one/bought one at a specialist store?

Date: July 06, 2007 01:47PM although i am about to live in brighton ( !!!!!!) i am in milton keynes now, and had previously thought it terrible for finding things. however, my favourite lady on the market who runs an indian stall has been getting loooads of goodies in over the past few months, and i have bought two durians off her, plus mangosteen, rambutan (not v fresh) and lots of other nice things. i was very surprised. they do look at me in disbelief when i buy them though!
i was in tesco this week (i know..!) and they have young green coconuts for 99p?? this is also bizarre. im not sure how long they will be there for..but yeh, a thai lady and i got talking over them (though the coconuts were from costa rice ithink) if you visit london it obviously makes things easier, with the oriental centre (collindale) and chinatown and such. i guess raw rob has more knowledge of other places durians might be hiding though Re: Jicama and Durian in the UK?

Date: July 06, 2007 02:45PM Yay! Durians in the UK! Thanks, folks I was starting to think they were the botanical equivelent of the loch ness monster or sasquatch!
They had young coconuts in Tescos? You are so lucky! I just went down to the shops and couldn't even find a decent chili pepper ;-) I'm near Heathrow, I don't mind going to London to stock up on stuff! Out of curiosity, how much does a standard durian cost? Thanks guys! Re: Jicama and Durian in the UK?

Chinatown probably best for you then, Leicester Square tube, on Picadilly line so no change from Heathrow. Lots of other interesting fruit in Chinatown while you're there.
