Beets

Good Morning,
Would just like some feedback and opions on Beets.
I juice one beet and two apples a day to cleanse the liver.
I've heard some say beets are sugar and are not good and
on the other hand I've heard they are terrific!
So please let me know what you think!
Thanks!
Jan

they're sugary for a vegetable. but less sugar per gram than carrots. also, what's the problem with natural sugars? I think they're nice, actually.

I like to cut them up and eat beet sticks. (magenta fingers!) They parch my mouth though.

measure twice, cut once.

If you like the taste of beets, then certainly enjoy them. For me, I enjoy fresh fruits more that I like root vegetables. The Hippocrates raw diet (which I don't agree with) says that beets and carrots are too sugar rich for sick people, and they recommend that these sick people don't eat them. My experience is that sick people ought to cut out fats entirely until their symptoms go away, and eat all the sweet whole fresh foods they care for. But also remember that Hippocrates is more of a healing diet for people on SAD foods, and it is not really a diet oriented for eating all raw. In fact they highly recommend eating 20% by volume cooked foods in the diet. 20% cooked by volume might translate into 80% cooked by percentage of calories, since there is way more calories in 1 cup of cooked rice (267 calories) versus 1 cup of celery (19 calories) or lettuce (8 calories) or sprouts (10 calories).
