high greens and fat No fruit

Hello,

Is any one out there doing well on a high green diet with seeds and nuts, instead of the 80/10/10 diet with loads of fruit and little or no seeds and nuts ??

Im doing the 80/10/10 diet right now and i feel great for not eating cooked food but i am eating ALOT of fruit and feel like im craving the sugar and need to snack all day on fruits, im also eating about half - one pound of greens a day.
A few days ago i was also eating a few ounces of nuts and seeds a day aswell as the fruit but that didnt work out well and i felt bloated and looked and felt terrible.

I am thinking of trying the high green and fat route, and not eating any fruits. or maybe eating melon in the morning to hydrate me and then eating lots of greens and some seeds and nuts through the rest of the day.

I just want to feel great and look my best and right now i dont like the way i am eating all day because i dont think i even need all the fruit i think im just craving the sugar.

Also ive been on fitday and typed in lots of different fruits, mainly bananas and melon and some greens and looked at the different vitamins and minerals they had to offer.
And then typed in 2 ounces of flax seeds and 1 ounce of sunflower seeds and 1 ounce of almonds and a lot of greens ( 2 pound / 12 cups ) and then looked at the vitamins and minerals these foods had to offer.

I have to admit that the greens and seeds and nuts had better results than the fruit and greens, it is very hard to get much zinc and vitamin E with just fruit and greens, but the seeds and greens had lots of vitamin E and zinc and also all the other vitamins and minerals ( apart from vitamin D and B-12 ).

Its probably cheaper to eat the greens and seeds/nuts than lots of fruit and greens.

Any sugestions / coments would be great.

Paulie.

Hi paulie.
I have experienced that unsatiable hunger when consuming mainly fruit as well. So far I've always found the remedy to be salads and greens and have a hunch that it may depend on the type and quality of the greens one eats. Like if you are lacking in a mineral which isn't present in lettuce, then eating any amount of lettuce isn't going to make you feel content.

I've found that some of the greens which definately take my hunger away are wheat grass juice, kale, herbs and the darker leafies like spinache. It might also depend on how they are grown as to how much nutrients are in each green... just some thoughts.

High greens and fat and No fruit for me equals no energy,

I tried it many years ago after 2 days,I was very hungry to eat only greens and fat without fruit to me sounds almost impossible without graving carbohydrates.

Fresh ripe fruit is my best fuel I will take it anytime over greens or fat.

You need the energy or carbs from fruit or you will eventually lose steam over time. It just won't work. You may feel great temporarily, but it will catch up to you. High greens and no fat wouldn't be the greatest either. To get enough daily calories from greens is very difficult and you don't want to rely on fat for your calorie source.

So then, a raw food diet is either fruit, veggies or fat. Fruit is the most important for long term surviving. All three is preferred or proven best. Some can live without veggies and overt fats and survive fine but that takes a great deal of time to adapt to this.

Bottom line: You need to eat fruit on a raw diet if you want to be doing this years from now. :O)

paulie,

When I first went raw, I was eating all the time. And when I cut out the high fat, I was still eating all the time. The way I look at it was that my body wanted to rebuild itself with the new raw raw materials and throw away the old cells based on the cooked foods. To do this, I had to eat a lot of food to replace every cell will new proteins made from raw protein. Once my body finished the bulk of the replacement of the old body, my appetite shrunk. After a year of being all raw, my appetite slowed down some. Around my 5th year, I notice a larger shrinkage of appetite. Others have shared about needing much less raw foods after 5 years of all raw.

As far as no fruit, all I can say is "bonne chance". This is French for good luck, not good chance. But have your own experience of the two, and see which one feels better. Everyone I've seen who has done to no fruit raw diet typically does a lot of supplementation to feel good. On the other hand, people eating a lot of fruit don't require supplementation to feel good.

You may need to eat more fat at first when going to a high fruit diet. I tried to keep my fat intake under 10% at first, and it was difficult for me. So I raised my fat intake to 20%, and I found over the next 2 years that it fell to under 10% quite effortlessly.

I eat fruit - but it's mostly the fruits that we think of as veggies - tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, etc.

I feel better eating those fruits, greens, and some nut butter. In fact, I am participating in a 21 day challenge where I decided to drop the 2 - 3 bananas I was eating per day, nuts at work, and raw bars and incorporate more veggies juices and green smoothies. The things I am dropping were not really working for me and I think they were transitional foods that I need to get past.

Experiment with what feels right for you. It might be a stage you are at where you need it or it could turn out to be permanent. Who knows? Only you will know what is right for you.

Of course you're addicted to the sugar, we are all addicted to sugar of some sort. Our brain runs on glucose, lot's of glucose - sugar - you need it. It's less of an addiction and more of a vital NEED, and fruit is the very best source of glucose.

I think it might be best to either eat 'Greens and Fat' or 'Fruit', but not mix the two. I think the best for me is 'All Green', but I've added Wheatgrass Juice to my diet, twice a day. I think what we feel should be tested on our own bodies. Some people do fine on 80/10/10, but I feel it's too much Fruit for me......WY
P.S. Plus, Fresh Organic Fruit costs an arm and a leg, and the quality is not that great. Organic Greens are very affordable, and are usually very good.

I'm not sure that there is such a thing as "too much fruit" it is the food that our bodies prefer as it's simple sugars are easy to absorb and give us wonderful energy! How can we have too much of that? smiling smiley

Sugar is not a bad thing - unless you are covering your bananas in refined sugar and dunking your strawberries in chocolate sauce!

I naturally wandered over to the 80/10/10 way after eating a diet predominated by nuts, fats, oils and then some!
It made me feel very bleurgh.

I felt as if i was carrying around a lot of blubber!

It was enlightening to know that I CAN eat all that fruit and it's fine.

I really enjoy being able to eat loads of fruit, I'd never like to think I could feel bad about eating something so wonderful.

Fruit is Man's Natural Food. Looking at the diet of Chimpanzees
proves it. But they don't eat anywhere near 80%. It's more
like 50-50 of fruit to greens according to Victoria Boutenko in "Green for Life"

This probably has to do with fruit availability. Here is a piece from Bonobo Nutrition:
Quote

The differing proportions of fruits in the bonobo diets recorded at each research site are linked to differences in forest ecology, which affect fruit availability. For instance, Kano and Mulavwa (1984) estimate that fruit comprises between 80-90% of the bonobos' diet at Wamba, whereas Badrian and Malenky (1984) estimate that only between 40-50% of the Lomako bonobos' diet consisted of fruit.

Hey,

Ive just decided im going to stop eating any fruits and just live on greens nuts/seeds and some light veg/fruits probably only cucumber celery raddish i may try tomatoes also.

The way im feeling right now is not good, i know i have candida and i think that this is why im finding this difficult and why i dont feel good, im looking bloated right now and actually feel quite angry.

Well ill start tomorow with the greens veg and seeds/nuts and see how i do, im also hoping eating this way will stop any cravings and the need to eat all day, which is how i am right now.

Paulie,

Could you give us a sample of your typical daily menu on the high fruit? Here is what mine looks like yesterday (include the time you ate and the amounts of foods):

2pm: 5 pounds of satsumas
7pm: 3 pounds of satsuas. 1 pound of broccoli salad with juice of 4 oranges, 1/4 cup hemp seeds, 1/8 cup hemp seeds, 1/2 bunch cilantro.

I like 2 or 3 Walnuts in my Green Smoothies. Sometimes I have 2 or 3 Tbsp. of Pumpkin Seeds when I don't feel like cracking the Walnuts. I use Cacao Beans in my Fruit Smoothies. I'm not sure if the Fat is really necessary......WY

Ok, ill try my best,

Yesterday i had =

9am = 2 apples 100g kale
10am = 2 sharon fruit
12pm = 100g kale
12:30pm = 6 bananas
2pm = 2 apples
5pm = 4 grapefruits
6pm = romaine lettuce 2-onces of flaxseeds
8pm = 5 pears 2 sharon fruit
9pm = apple

That is a typical day, i may not have all the foods or times completely right but its very close.

And this is what i have had today =

9am = half a honeydue melon
9:30 = 1 once of flaxseeds and 1 once of sunflower seeds cucumber and 100g of kale
12pm = 2 apples
2pm = 1 once of flaxseeds and 1 once of sunflower seeds cucumber raddish celery and 100g of kale
4pm = 2 apples
5pm = 5 pears
6:30 = 7 bananas

Well thats it so far i think i got most of that right its almost 9pm here now.

Yesterday is a typical day i dont usually have seeds during the day i only sometimes have them at nigth or in the evening, but most of the time well over the last few weeks i dont usually have any seeds, but i thought i might start adding a couple onces of seeds each day.
I must admit i actually felt better when i wasnt eating any seeds atall, but i was losing so much weight and felt weak and i felt like there was something missing like i was needing something else that my fruit only diet wasnt giving me, thats why i have started eating seeds.

ref feeling hungry after fruit, could it be that the sugar in fruit spikes insulin levels and therefore makes you feel hungry as it spikes back down?

Paulie,

I think you are having a simple food combining problem. Try doing this:

9am: 4 grapefruits
10am: 2 sharon fruit
12am: 2 sharon fruit
2pm 6 bananas
5pm 4 apples
6pm 6 pears
8pm 200g kale, romaine lettuce, 2 oz flaxseeds

or this:

9am honeydew melon
9:30 2 apples
10:30 2 apples
12pm 7 bananas
3pm 5 pears
6:30 2 once of flaxseeds and 2 once of sunflower seeds cucumber and 200g of kale

What I did is this: start the day with juicy fruits. This will rehydrate your body. So melons, or grapefruits/citrus. Also, bunch the same fruits together as much as possible. So if you are eating apples, continue eating apples until you've finished for apples for the day. Then go to the next fruit, say bananas, and continue eating bananas until you are done with bananas for the day. End your day with your greens and fats.

It ought to. If the symptoms are really bad, cut out the overt fats (nuts, seeds, avocados, coconuts, etc) until the symptoms go away. Then, reintroduce a little bit of fat at a time, seeing where you start to have problems again.

Does anyone have an answer to this question ?

all food spike insulin levels, not only fruit.

If you don't eat much fat then the insulin can escort the sugar out of the bloodstream quickly - if your system is clogged with fat then the insulin says "help! Can't find a way out and I gotta take this sugar to where its needed!" So then it stays stuck in the bloodstream - when you reduce the fat you eat
the insulin can say "Oh halleluiah! a clear exit, come with me sugar, you're outta the bloodstream now!" Then it get's taken to where it's needed, energy for us!

If you feel hungry you either:
haven't eaten enough
or
it's your stomach contracting back to it's original size after digesting a meal
or
you needs haven't been met
or
you might need to chew a bit more
or
you're thirsty (but eating juicy fruits should help this anyways)
or
it's in the mind, perhaps you aren't really hungry and just feel like something to eat anyways. up to you how you deal with that one : )

Thanks Azura, that makes alot of sense smiling smiley

Well today i have only eated flaxseeds and sunflower seeds and kale cucumber and celery.
I actually feel pritty good and am not craving anything,
Also for so long now i have had a real itch scalp and i feel like my hair has gotten alot thinner over the last few months, i beleive this is because of my candida, but right now my scalp is not itching, so that makes me feel alot better.
Maybe because i havent been combining my fruit meals properly is the reason i have not been able to clear up my candida with the fruit diet, i dont know, but i will stick to greens and seeds and light vegtables for at least a few days and see how i feel, i might as well give it a go.

Cheers, Paulie.

If I were you I would give fat a break first, for at least a month. Try it and see before you omit the fruit.
Eat fruit in the day, veg in the evening and see how you feel.
for the first week omit all fats, then have avocados in the second week for about 4 days, then some nuts and seeds in the last two weeks of the month.

Candidia only exists if there's sugar to feed it - but the sugar only remains there if there's fat blocking its way out. So clear the bloodstream of fat and you might find the candidia problem gets better.

up to you of course! good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks Azura,

Its the end of my green and seed/nut only day and im not feeling great sad smiley

Im gonna take everyones advice, and tomorrow i will just eat fruit and greens and i will leave the seeds and nuts out for a while, i think that will make me feel better, i just hope this clears up my candida.

Does anyone know how long it will take before i see and feel results as far as clearing up my candida eating just fruit ?

Does it have to be 80/10/10 by the way, i have typed into fitday a selection of fruits about 2000 cals worth and the protein and fat always seam to be around 7% with carbs well over 80%, is that ok ?
