is broccoli a "green?"
Posted by: ILoveJen ()

lately i have been craving them hardcore. especially enjoying the starchy stalk. i eat about two lbs a day.

a couple months ago i was craving the celeries like mad, and now i'm not. it's all broccoli now.

are either considered a "green" since they are green? or in order for something to be "greens" it has to be a leaf?

Broccoli is a Green. I use a whole Stalk, with the Florets, in each of my Green Smoothies. I cut off some of the hard stalk, until the cutting gets 'easy'. Don't ask me why!! I Love Broccoli, but for some reason don't care for Cauliflower. Broccoli has small, very green leaves growing on the stalk. Sometimes they're removed in the packaging......WY

i dig the stalk, too. it's better when it's closer to the fluffy part though. =)

i don't care too much for the white colie either. it feels like eating white instead of green if that even makes sense at all. =)

Yes, that makes sense. I feel the same way about
it not being green enough.
I find when I use Celery as part of the fertilizer for my
Wheatgrass, the grass doesn't grow the Deep Green I'm looking for,
whereas when I use only Carrot Scraps, it does.......WY

HA HA! yeah... well, obviously the flavor is quite mild ( unlike mustard greens which doesn't just pack a punch but will kick me out of my senses....)

the "punch" i was referring to is the ingredients
lots of indoles, dithilthiones, sulfurofanes
all anti tumorous and other stuff

well i never had cancer
and i'm gonna keep drinking broccoli juice to keep it that way

and.. well, to be quite honest

it tastes quite nice and salty
well mixed with celery, it makes the flavor quite balanced

and it is actually quite calming for me
when i drink broccoli juice with celery
i feel like "everything is going to be okay now"

i know that sounds kind of funny and
but ... that's how it goes

broccoli is actually the flower of the plant. The leaves are the greens of the plant. Broccoli greens are great. They taste kind of like collards. I pick my own broccoli greens at an organic farm near where I live. Yhe same farm allows me to pick as much dandelion as I want for free since not many wany them.

Hah, I used to eat broccoli greens all the time when I was working on a farm. Every broccoli I would pick, I would grab a leave and chew on it. Ahhh.. We really need to get food growing in our appartment, store bought greens are so... not really good. Mrphm.

But yeah broccoli flowers are also good to eat!
And when the flowers blossom they are really beautiful.

I put a small amount of dandelion in my salad or I'll use it in my smoothies. It's kind of strong but it's very good for you ... especially the liver from what I understand.

Spring time is great for collecting some wild greens. I used to collect wild chicory from the edge of a corn field.

I don't think brocolli is a green, though I'll try it in a smoothie soon.
