What did You eat today?

Hi all,

I just watched on ABC's news tonight about the 37 MILLION pound beef recall, all due to CRUELTY to helpless cattle at a slaughterhouse in California. I've been sobbing ever since. Although I've gone veg/raw on and off the past year, this was my calling card. I can no longer turn my head to the cruelty. Please, tell me what your average/normal diet consists of. I can't even fathom the idea of ever desiring meat again. Please direct me. Love, gimpy

I am not 100% raw.

Mornings soymilk with coffee or white tea.

I have a few pieces of fruit when I get to work.

Lunch is a huge salad, about 12 cups, with walnuts, olive oil, and handful of cooked beans. I don't eat this all at once but munch throughout the day.

When I get home, I have fruit salad with ground flax.

I know it's emotionally very jarring. But we need these realizations. I turned vegetarian in 7th grade after seeing an especially disturbing anti-KFC video on PETA. After that-- it was just a progression to all raw.

Oh, what I eat. Well, right now I'm juice feasting-- so not the greatest example...but I usually have a big salad for dinner and fruit for breakfast/lunch...It doesn't have to be complicated. I get suuuper excited for certain fruits/veggies and find those are especially satisfying to me.

Make yourself a really delicious salad with your favorite veggies or find a recipe on goneraw.com that really appeals. You'll know what's right for you.

Utopian life - how active are you? That seems like so much food, and right now that is a struggle for me. I hear people saying that they eat so simply, and so little, and I feel like I enjoy eating the foods that you have on your list all day! I am certainly not feeling like I am just eating a little. Can you describe your list a bit more - in terms of amounts and when? I am just interested that's all. Thanks!

i woke up and had 2 quarts of water. about 2 hours later i ate a large cherimoya. an hour or so after that i had a banana, and a green smoothie with more cherimoya, 3 bananas, a bunch of spinach, a fingerling of turmeric, some parsley, an apple, a large zucchini, and a small cucumber. throughout the course of the afternoon i snacked on two apples, two more bananas, a tangerine, and an asian pear, and drank a bunch more water. tonight for dinner i will probably have some spiralized zucchini noodles (3 small zucchini) tossed with a pesto made from basil, spinach, olive oil, garlic, onion, and a small handful of pine nuts, served with chopped tomatoes, and a large green salad with beets with a dressing made from lemon juice, cucumber and fresh dill. for a late night snack i'll probably munch on some thinly sliced raw sweet potatoes sprinkled with cayenne and cinnamon.

Sure, no problem. I am active in that I do yoga one day (about 1.5-2 hours, flow yoga with some stretching) with a walk, the next day run about a half hour with a half hour walk and sometimes more walking, then the next day jump rope for a bit and also walk, rinse and repeat. So every day I am getting some exercise, sometimes more intense than others.

I woke up at 7:30 and had the tea, then went for my run.
I got back and had some carrots about 10:30.
I went out and met a friend about noon for the latte and fresh apple juice.
We got to a raw food place about 1:30 and had the green smoothie plus cheezburger platter.
About 5:00, we went out and had the wine.
At around 8:00, I got home and made two large salads with the red bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, herb salad, cilantro, dressing, dulse. I also had the pineapple, cantelope, blackberries, and blueberries after that.

If I had to guess my caloric intake yesterday, it was about 2,000-2,300. I used to eat about 1,500-1,800/day on cooked foods mixed with raw, but on raw, I need more calories (and fat).

gimpyq I saw that news report as well, it was so disturbing. It just confirmed my decision to never eat meat again. I have done some backsliding this month since I am new to raw food, but the more I read and watch the more determined I am to stick with it.
I was in tears seeing what was done to those cows, my husband was really upset as well. Hopefully other people will learn from this incident and who knows it may inspire someone else to stop eating meat. Just keep doing what you're doing and your health and happines will set an example for others.

on workdays (monday thru friday) i usually eat this:

breakfast: 40 oz Fresh Squeezed OJ

Lunch: Greens (Romaine or Spinach or Sprouts) + Avocado; small fruit salad.

pre-workout snack: 40 oz Fresh Squeezed OJ or fruit.


Dinner: Green Smoothie= banana, kale, persimmon, papaya, mint.
+ a small handful of raw nuts or seeds.

I stay fat free till dinner.

Currently I have a large green smoothie on the way to work made of 4 - 5 cups of organic greens and a couple of oranges and a pear (or whatever fruit I have) thrown in.

At work I have 6 - 7 nectarines for breakfast. For lunch 5 - 6 bananas and some other fruit i.e. cherries, canteloupe, mangoes, more nectarines. Sometimes a cucumber. Depends on what looks good/fresh at the market.

When I get home I may have another green smoothie and then a zucchini pasta or other raw meal. A few times a week I have steamed vegetables i.e. broccoli, potatoes, asparagus, yams, rutabega, carrots. Raw ice cream or dates for dessert.

100% Raw
morning- 2 bananas, 4 blackberries, 1 apple, sunflower seeds,4 dates

noon snack- a mango

lunch- avacado, tomato, cabage

dinner- probably an invention i trow together with some culiflower broccli and cucumber

Dinner: salad w/ leafy greens, sprounts, sweet red pepper... and some other stuff, I can't remember. Oh yeah, dressing made w/ avocado/lemon juice base.

For breakfast: Real raw almond milk, avocolada (recipe from a raw food recipe book)

For morning snack and post-workout snack: Carrots, 4 tbsps olive oil, nutritional yeast

For lunch: Entertaining to eat spinach, cucumbers, sprouts, tomatoes, brocolli, red peppers with a thai curry dressing.

cherry+banana+avocado+spinach smoothie

rice and raw spinach on a tortilla

minced cabbage with a tomato sauce, cold-pressed olive oil and nutritional yeast

11 a.m. cold cucumber soup ~ cucumber, raw garlic, diced ginger, tahini, bit of sea salt, olive oil, and homemade vege crackers

4 p.m. green soup~ kale, spinach,leafy greens, garlic, ginger, tomato,

1.5 c. sun-dried tomatoes
2.5 c. fresh cherry tomatoes
1 c. raisins
8 c. mixed green salad
3 apples
1.5 c. seaweed (dulse and nori, both raw)
1/2 c. dried figs
5 c. raw kale
adzuki, lentil, and green pea sprouts (about 1/2 c.)
2 brazil nuts
1/2 c. carrot
1 Red bell pepper
flax seeds & pumpkin seeds (made into crackers)

Green lemonade smoothie--head of kale, lime, stevia. This was huge, bigger than my Nalgene
Salad-kiwi, yellow pepper, hot pepper, cucumber, lime juice
2 Lara bars
3 mangos
an orange

Dinner
-raw gazpacho-blended parsley (LOTS), tomato, onion, hot pepper, added chunks of cucumber, parsley and yellow pepper and sprouted legumes and basil
-mango-sesame bar
-Artisana cacao-coconut butter (2 tbsp)
-half avocado
-3 flax crackers
-dates
-date-chocolate bar (low-fat)

Kinda high-fat today. I was hungry, maybe since it's so cold. And I was getting so watery-full from the fruit.

Bosc pear & baby romaine juice, golden delicious apple & kale juice, Sunhini ~(sunflower seeds (soaked & srouted for a few days), lemon juice, garlic, cilantro, sea salt) with baby greens. This eve, I'll have carrot & greens juice. Everything is local & organic, including the sunflower seeds.

That is just the list of raw vegan for today.

I've banned China. Nothing I eat is from China, except for vegan restaraunts, I go to. That is why I don't buy prepared raw food from the popular companies, because most of the nuts & seeds they use are from China & India. Most beans are from china, too, so I make sure they are USA grown, and buy from www.goldminenatualfoods.com I do my research.
