Raw salad dressing without oil & raw spaghetti slicer

Hello everyone:

1. Can you recommend a book or do you have a personal favorite raw salad dressing that's made without any oil?

Growing tired of my avocado, lemon juice, garlic & pepper concoction. If you're wondering why no oil, I'm following the raw diet book "The 80/10/10 Diet" which recommends no oil (raw-organic or otherwise.)

2. Trying to decide whether to buy the cheaper Saladacco or the more expensive Benriner raw spaghetti slicer. The reviews on Amazon have been for the more expensive gadget, but curious what others say on this forum.

Thanks a bunch!!! smiling smiley

I have a Benriner and it's awesome... It's sturdy (even though it looks cheap) and I highly recommend it.

Squeeze a fresh orange onto the salad. You can also add something tart like vinegar or mustard seed, though don't know if that's 811-allowed. Tomato-based is also yummy.

Some standard all-raw dressings:

1) Garlic & Lemon Juice
2) Ginger & Carrot puree
3) Horseradish root - for the spicy-likey.

-Remember a fresh salsa....or guacamole always makes a good salad topping. Just my experiences.

Give these a whirl in your blender:

CITRUS HERB DRESSING
1/2 red bell pepper
2 tomatoes
1/2 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup loosely packed fresh parsley
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp dry mustard
fresh thyme leaves
fresh tarragon
fresh oregano
ground black pepper

CUCUMBER DILL
1 cucumber
1/4 cup fresh dill
2 Tbsp fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 stalk celery
1 clove garlic

ORANGE CILANTRO
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 tsp ground coriander
2 Tbsp fresh cilantro
1/2 tsp mustard
(ginger is good in this one too if you like it...)

MANGO ORANGE
1 medium mango, peeled and cut into chunks
1/2 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon nama shoyu (if you use it?)
1/4 teaspoon curry powder

SWEET & SOUR
1 c. pineapple
1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. ground paprika
2 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. celery seed

i just experiment a lot blending up whatever fruit i have on hand, and whatever fresh herbs. apple-curry is nice. so is plum-date-garam masala. tomato is good with lots of fresh herbs and garlic. cucumber is watery and fresh and light, goes great with dill and cilantro. for spices i use mustard a lot, also curry, fresh ginger, chinese 5-spice... you get the picture...

have fun!

The one Bryan has recently mentioned is a current favorite, It's fresh orange juice, hemp seeds sun dried tomatoes and cilantro all blended up. I add the cilantro last and just pulse a couple of times.

I notice garlic is used quite a bit in raw concoctions. I'm not exactly positive yet, but it seems anytime I eat something with garlic I get tired.

Does anyone else get tired?

you're right dvdai, garlic is stimulating... and as such can also rob you of energy. everyone is differently wired as to how pronounced the effects are. as for me, i'm transitioning and i still like it smiling smiley and i have PLENTY of energy compared with my old highly-caffeinated days. but i look to drop the garlic someday if the time becomes right...

monks in ancient India avoided garlic due to its stimulating properties and ability to arouse passions. those double dangers meant that teenagers and widows were also forbidden to indulge. many Hindus still avoid garlic because they believe its stimulating effects keep them from reaching a high spiritual plane.

I think that tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, dates, basil, italian parsley, avocado (a tiny bit), and a little bit of onion and lemon juice or vinegar and a little bit of walnuts or pinenuts would be good.

I like to mash a clove of garlic into some Hemp seed oil using a pastel and mortar and then pour it over some young spinach and sprinkle some sunflower seeds on top.

sorry, I just remembered this thread is oil free
