B12 supplementation

Date: February 23, 2008 05:49AM After reading an article at vegan society, I decided to by a B12 supplement. The women at the natural food store told me I should take that says Methylcobalamin so I did.
The bottle says that each capsule contains 1000 Mcg and I read our body only needs 3 mcg a day. I wonder if I will get too much B12 from this supplement. Any opinions on that one? Re: B12 supplementation

I use 1000 mcg tablets, I cut them into 1/4 and take 1/4 once a week. Generally the water soluble vitamins are ok in large quantities, the excess just gets urinated out But there have been some reports of adverse effects of large doses of B vitamins. I read a paper that found optimal plasma homocysteine levels were obtained with 7.5 mcg per day. But the "experts" are saying what we really need is 1 mcg per day, provided we can absorb it.
