Date: February 24, 2008 02:20AM Hi:
I am thinking very seriously of going RAW. Any tips, hints, advice in terms of transitioning, good websites to order bulk nuts/grains from, good starter equipment to buy? Thanks Re: Starting RAW

Date: February 24, 2008 02:43AM IMO, the ideal to strive for is 100% all raw and persistence in the daily walk is the key to getting there. If you slip get back on track as soon as possible and then look back and see if there is anything to be learned from the slip and then forget it and move on. The closer you can get to fresh all raw the better the results. Happy trails Re: Starting RAW

Date: February 24, 2008 02:35PM Welcome! This is a great place. Some advice...
Hang out here, read all you can, consider the source(s) of what you read, listen to yourself, be patient with yourself, love yourself, meditate, exercise, stick with positive supportive people, and eat all the fresh fruits and fresh vegetables you can... try to limit processed/manufactured products as much as possible. Be wary of those who would have you believe they are gurus, be wary of those who want to sell you something, be wary of the advice of well-meaning but Coke swigging friends. You don't necessarily need to buy lots of expensive equipment or supposed "super food." (Super food = super expensive.) Check out meetup.com and yahoo groups for local raw vegan meetups / meetings in your area. It's great to meet other real people! This and foodnsport.com are my favorite raw internet places. I hope this helps. Lee [www.dharmaseed.org] Re: Starting RAW

But where do you get your sulfites, nitrites, nitrosmaines, BHA, BHT, potassium bromate, FD & C colors, red number 2, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), Acesulfame-K, MSG, trans fats, propyl gallate, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, and antimicrobials? Re: Starting RAW

I'm not looking for a guru or extremism. Lee, do you mind if I ask you to read the thread I started so I can get your thoughts? It's called Looking for Balanced Reading Material, or something to that effect. Thank you, Lee. Re: Starting RAW

Date: February 24, 2008 10:05PM The above posts are great. Thank you all! My advice / opinion for a beginner:
-Analyze what overall percentage of your diet is fresh, raw plant foods that you are perfectly comfortable eating RIGHT now. Brainstorm and set VERY SMALL, CONSCIOUS, VOLUNTARY, MOTIVATED, and ATTAINABLE GOALS (WITH TIMETABLES) to achieve what YOU think are the most important dietary and health goals. Give yourself a generous timetable of at least 6-12 months to undo a lifetime of perhaps non-optimal eating. Don't expect people doing the wrong thing to understand, support you, or feed you correctly - they probably won't. Forgive them - and start judging yourself by how well you can listen, and support THEM. -Hope some of that is helpful Nadia. -David Z.
