Plant grade hydrogen peroxide
Posted by: Leesah ()

I was wondering...Is there anyone on here who drinks diluted plant grade hydrogen peroxide? My boyfriend (whos also raw) recently started doing it and thinks its a wonderful idea.

I haven't been able to find much about it on the web yet. Any thoughts/opinions? Is it "raw"?

I've never heard of plant grade hydrogen peroxide, much less drinking it! I'm gonna sit back and watch the wisdom roll in.

Great, albeit scary, question Leesah.

When he first told me about it, I thought he had lost his mind! Here is a link to some info about it:

I just want to make sure there is some kind of scientific evidence behind drinking it (very diluted...something like 1 drop for a tall glass of water). I hope someone on this forum knows something!

Hey, thanks for the link. Still scary, but interesting. I'll pass on it personally. For those who don't want to sift through the information on the link, here's the bit about hydrogen peroxide being food grade. The tiny fact I put in bold really settles the issue for me. (By the way, they use 90% grade hydrogen peroxide in rocket fuel. A little tidbit they mention immediately after the part about the 35% grade burning your skin on contact but being okay to guzzle!)

Quote

35% Food Grade: This is used in the production of foods like cheese, eggs, and whey-containing products. It is also sprayed on the foil lining of aseptic packages containing fruit juices and milk products. THIS IS THE ONLY GRADE RECOMMENDED FOR INTERNAL USE. It is available in pints, quarts, gallons or even drums. Various suppliers are mentioned later in this article.

Only 35% Food Grade hydrogen peroxide is recommended for internal use. At this concentration, however, hydrogen peroxide is a very strong oxidizer and if not diluted, it can be extremely dangerous or even fatal. Any concentrations over 10% can cause neurological reactions and damage to the upper gastrointestinal tract. There have been two known fatalities in children who ingested 27% and 40% concentrations of H202. Recently, a 26 month old female swallowed one mouthful of 35% H202. She immediately began vomiting, followed by fainting and respiratory arrest. Fortunately, she was under emergency room care and although she experienced erosion and bleeding of the stomach and esophagus, she survived the incident. When she was re-examined 12 days later, the areas involved had healed (J Toxicol Clin Toxicol 90;28(1):95-100).

35% Food Grade H202 must be

1) handled carefully (direct contact will burn the skin--immediate flushing with water is recommended).

2) diluted properly before use. 3) stored safely and properly (after making a dilution the remainder should be stored tightly sealed in the freezer).

One of the most convenient methods of dispensing 35% H202 is from a small glass eye dropper bottle. These can be purchased at your local drugstore. Fill this with the 35% H202 and store the larger container in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator until more is needed. Store the eye dropper bottle in the refrigerator. The generally recommended dosage is outlined in the chart below. The drops are mixed with either 6 to 8 ounces of distilled water, juice, milk or even aloe vera juice or gel. (Don't use chlorinated tap water to dilute the peroxide!)

Suggested Protocol
The program outlined is only a suggestion, but it is based on years of experience, and reports from thousands of users. Those who choose to go at a slower pace can expect to progress more slowly, but that certainly is an option. The program is not carved in stone and keep in mind that it can be adapted to fit individual needs. Individuals who have had transplants should not undertake an H202 program. H202 stimulates the immune system and could possibly cause a rejection of the organ.

Day # -Number of Drops/ Times Per Day
1 - 3 / 3
2 - 4 / 3
3 - 5 / 3
4 - 6 / 3
5 - 7 / 3
6 - 8 / 3
7 - 9 / 3
8 - 10 / 3
9 - 12 / 3
10 - 14 / 3
11 - 16 / 3
12 - 18 / 3
13 - 20 / 3
14 - 22 / 3
15 - 24 / 3
16 - 25 / 3

Maintenance Dosage
In most situations after the above 21 day program, the amount of H202 can be tapered off gradually as follows:
25 drops once every other day for 1 week
25 drops once every third day for 2 weeks
25 drops once every fourth day for 3 weeks

This can then be reduced to between 5 and 15 drops per week based on how one feels. Those with more serious problems will often benefit from staying on 25 drops three times a day for one to three weeks, then tapering down to 25 drops two times daily until the problem is resolved (possibly as long as six months). Those with chronic systemic Candidiasis may need to start with 1 drop three times a day, then 2 drops three times a day before starting the above schedule. It is important that H202 be taken on an empty stomach. This is best accomplished by taking it either one hour before meals or three hours after meals. If there is food in the stomach, the reaction of H202 on any bacteria present may cause excess foaming, indigestion, and possibly even vomiting. Additionally, some animal research indicates that when H202 given orally combines with iron and small amounts of vitamin C in the stomach, hydroxyl radicals are created (J Inorg Biochem 89;35(1):55-69). The bleach-like aftertaste of H202 can be lessened by chewing one of the sugar-free cinnamon gums. Some individuals taking H202 immediately before bedtime have a difficult time getting to sleep. This is probably due to a sense of alertness triggered by an increase of oxygen at the cellular level. The oral dosage schedule is basically the same for all conditions. There are several points to keep in mind, however.

Some individuals may experience upset stomach. If this occurs it is recommended that one not stop the program, but rather remain at the current dosage level or reduce it to the previous level until the problem stops. (Some patients have been able to solve the nausea problem by taking three or four lecithin capsules at the same time they take the H202.) During the program it's not uncommon to experience what is known as a healing crisis. As dead bacteria and toxins are released from your body it may temporarily exceed your capacity to eliminate them quickly enough. In some individuals this overload may cause fatigue, diarrhea, headaches, skin eruptions, cold or flu-like symptoms, and/or nausea. One should not discontinue using the peroxide to stop this cleansing. By continuing the program, toxins will clear the body sooner and this healing crisis will pass rather quickly.

If you are not already taking vitamin E and an acidophilus product, I recommend starting them before going on H202. Vitamin E can make more efficient use of any oxygen available and acidophilus will help re-establish the beneficial bacterial flora in the lower bowel and also help in the internal production of hydrogen peroxide.

H2O2 is an oxidizing agent. Why anyone would want to willingly drink it is beyond me.

Age faster. Get rustier inside. Etc.

I use just regular hydrogen peroxide if I feel like I might be getting the flu bug or whatever is going around and I feel like it's starting to hit me. I take only 3-5 drops in a glass of water, stir and drink it. It takes care of the oncoming symptoms quickly and I only usually take it once. Sometimes I've taken one glass one day and then one glass the next day but rarely.

I also put 1/2 Cup sometimes in my bath water and soak in it. I also keep a spray bottle of it and spray my body with it after my bath/shower. I use the 3% solution.

I also use it in my water pik for my teeth, and I've been brushing my dogs teeth with it lately and it's helping with his teeth problems.

Love,
Prism

My boyfriend is also using it on our plants, as it is supposed to help them grow heathier (by providing more oxygen?). We lightly sprayed our wheatgrass and it helped get rid of that cotton-like mold that grows near the roots of the grass.

That's as far as I've been willing to go so far. smiling smiley

Hey Arugula,

Could you please elaborate on what an oxidizing agent would do to the body? I tried looking it up on Wiki but all I could find was "liquids or solids that readily give off oxygen."

The pro-H202 site seemed to be saying that was a good thing...
Would love your input.

Oxidative stress is one of the major sources of elective aging in living organisms. Willingly taking in a source of oxidative stress is going to speed up the aging process. This is why it is important to have good antioxidant defenses, and one of the major reasons why a raw plant food diet is so protective.

In very basic terms, an oxidizing agent is any one that adds an oxygen atom or molecule to a compound, adds a halogen (chlorine, flourine, bromine) or takes away hydrogen.

Peroxides are ALWAYS oxidizers.

Opposite to an oxidizing agent is a reducing agent: a compound that adds hydrogen, takes away Oxygen or a halogen. Vitamin C, for example, is a very strong reducing agent.

Thanks for the info. That helped.

It seems like this is the against logic:

If there were extra oxygen, the cells would interact with it (as they do in breathing) and produce free radicals. These free radicals are bad for the body and that's why are cells are always in a "reducing state." Thus, why antioxidants are good for the body. Makes sense.

The pro side seems to say this:

White blood cells produce H202 to rid the body of harmful invaders. Vitamin C helps fight off invaders by producing H202. The increase in H202 causes the body to produce more prostaglandins, which destroys harmful bacteria and viruses. Also, helpful bacteria flourish in oxygen rich enviroments but bad bacteria can't live in oxygen rich environments.

So, its either really good for us or really bad for us. Hmmm...I started the raw food lifestyle to be more natural and in touch with my body/nature. I think I'll sit this one out.

Wow, I might take a bath with some in the bath, but I would not ingest it. What happens to him when he drinks it? It goes through his stomach as is absorbed where?.

Robert O. Youngs book, "The pH Miracle" started me out on raw foods (he recommends 80% raw food in the overall diet), and his healing protocol includes "pH drops" or H2O2 diluted in water. He suggests this (strongly I might add) with no more fanfare than one would expect from any recommendation of supplementation: in other words, like its no big deal.

He says, "Here's what everyone should take daily:

"Chlorine dioxide (C1O2) or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or pH drops are safe, stable substances that release oxygen in the body and chelate foreign material. Remember, the bad microforms are anaerobic, thriving in the absence of oxygen. The oxygen released by these substances devolves and eliminates yeast and fungus and inhibits spores. You can use ordinary hydrogen peroxide." and so on.

One would assume that DR. Young ingests these "pH drops" everyday himself.

I guzzled quite a lot of it over several months with no apparent ill effects...no hole in the gut or esophagus that I'm aware of. In fact, I felt quite wonderful on it in the beginning...until one day I didn't like the way it made me feel anymore. Not long ago I tried a few drops in my water again and it made me extremely nauseous (a not uncommon side effect) and so I did not continue.

One of the reasons I lurk moar these days (nods to pakd4fun ; ) is that after almost two years of experimenting with diet and supplementation (this time around) I've come to the realization that I don't know jack about diddly. I'm very hesitant to recommend anything to anyone based strictly on my own experience. Even in the beginning, when I was guzzling H2O2 with the confidence of the ignorant, I was not inclined to recommend it to anyone else because the research is patchy on the subject and very polarized. The strongest objections come from ingesting it - the preferred delivery is intravenous - and the concern is to the delicate lining of the esophagus and stomach. Still, the use of H2O2 has been around since the early 50's in the treatment of candida, some cancers and other maladies stemming from an over-acid internal- body environ with good success.

In the long run though, a good, clean, whole foods diet may accomplish the same goals without the risk.
