Have you tried Ohsawa Sea Vegetable Salad? It's not cheap, but it is tasty and beautiful.

I never got into seaweed. To me it smells like rotting fish.

I never ate fish as an omnivore, but I like seaweed. I think it took me a while to like it, though, due to reasons you mentioned, Arug, the smell. My friend Rich is an omnivore who eats fish here and there but eats mostly plant-based, but he salivates at the thought of seaweed. I think it's great because it's like drinking fresh water and eating fish is like drinking sewer water.

Usually the seaweed salas has crn syrup in it - if you go to asian markets and find a label in enlgish you can almost always find a wacky ingredient.
Another wierd one is aspratame in pickled ginger.
And formaldehyde.

The seaweed salads you get at restaurants almost always have sugar or corn syrup or artificial coloring in them!
